Well, after the support given on this forum, and a few hints I picked up off Bob's excellent L14 build videos, my Logo 500 3D is done, and has flown its first brief hop in my back garden. Thanks to all who've supported me through the build, helping with mixer arm problems and battery and pinion selection.

I thought I'd post some pics on here for those of you building a Logo at the moment. I'm not saying this is a perfect installation, but the cabling is very tidy, she's easy to work on, and I've got a CSM Cyclock in the back making there a lot more wires to keep out of harms way. I'm also a very proud parent and love to show off my new baby, already nicknamed "Posh" by my flying mates :)

Huge thanks go to my best friend Gaz for building this for me - I'm a wheelchair user and can't really manage the size and weight of a heli to build it. You'll see from the photos that not only did he do a stunning job on the canopy spray, but also a very tidy installation of all the electronics.

Power train is:
Thunder Tiger Ripper 30 motor (a Z30 1100 - 1050kv motor rebranded)
Custom Heli Parts metal Logo 500 motor mount
Stock 500 3D main gear with 18T pinion
CC45HV in governor mode, 80% for normal and idle1, 85% for idle2
8S A123 pack in 2 x 2 x 2 brick - Infinity Hobby sell them in this configuration

Radio:
GY401 and S9254 for tail
3 x S9650 for cyclic
CHP 9650 CF servo adaptors (intended for the Hurricane 550, but fit Logo with minor chassis drilling)
CHP 9650 CF servo plates
CSM Cyclock 1
Spektrum DX7 with AR6200 receiver

Big thanks go to ReadyHeli for the CHP adaptors - they sent the wrong part originally (the servo plates, rather than the adaptors) and when correcting their mistake, just let me keep the wrong part rather than bother with international postage for returns. Superb service as always :P

Blades:
RCP 500mm CF mains
30/50 3K Carbon Fiber Tail Blade from Infinity Hobby

The tail blades are a very similar size and shape to the Logo plastic ones and fit nicely with a light sand of the moulding seam at the root - there was a lot of excess epoxy here leaving a little bead which fouled the grip bolt.

Hope the parts list and photos are of interest... more than happy to answer any questions. Photos to follow in the next few posts.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Cannot say I am a fan of the Logo canopies but their frames are a work of art. Very organic, flowing shapes with really clever functional design. Nice build job, very neat as you say.

That pack must weigh about 640g. How is the balance ? What charging solution have you chosen for 8s A123 ? With two packs and a high power charger you should be able to fly almost non-stop.

Thanks for the feedback... have to agree the canopy is not the prettiest I've seen, but still infinitely better looking than the Swift :)

Quoted pack weight is 600g but I can't confirm this is correct at this time... bare cell weight is 71g per, so 40g extra for wire, connectors, shrink and cardboard is probably too little. I'm sure you're figure is close.

With the pack aligned to the front of the chassis opening the balance seems perfect, but I will double check it again later.

Charging solutions is the 180W Hyperion EOS 1210i charger with LiFe support... should allow me to charge at about 7A. Waiting for it to arrive so currently borrowing my friend's Schulze Camaleon which won't do more than 4.5A.

Probably won't buy a 2nd pack - helis give me such an adrenaline rush, the 30 minute break between flights is good for my heart :)

It's great to see a heli where they thought about A123 packs in the frame design. That 8s pack fits perfectly and at 800W continuous/1600W burst ought to fling the bird around nicely :)

If you get a chance, AUW with/without the battery would be interesting to know.

Enjoy.

What are the flight times with the 8s A123's? How do they compare to the FLightPower 6s 3700's in duration and performance?

Looks good. The canopy paint looks great !

Are you going to make full use of the Cylock by adding the 2 CSM720 gyros and going flybarless? Good looking bird, have fun with it.

Just had my first 2 serious flights with her and at 5 mins 30 secs the batteries dump in a big way! I knew to expect it, and when they went, the head speed immediately decayed - it was a gentle, but necessary forced landing.

I have no problem with that... 5 mins of flying is ideal for my tiny mind, especially as I'll only have to wait 20-30 mins to fly again. Use the timer and you'll be fine... either that or learn autos better than I can :)

As for performance, I'm sure the FP 6S will blow it away if you're that good a flyer... head speed was healthy and she wouldn't bog unbearably even at +/-12 degrees, but I doubt it would be enough for the hardcore 3D flyer. Lovely for sport/3D.

Yes - decided I could afford the Cyclock now and introduced it at the beginning of the build to reduce the software/hardware learning curve.

The 2 CSM720's will go in at the end of the season... my model budget for the year got blown in about April when I bought my 3rd heli of the year!!!

I am using 10S1P A123 on Logo 500 3D - auw is 2.9Kg, while previously with 8S1P it is around 2.75Kg.

Could you please post some photos showing how you mounted the 10s pack ? What charging/balancing solution are you using ?

Kenneth,

Can I get VBAR Stabli in Australia?

Here is my A123 10S on my Logo 500 3D and charging using TP1010/210 at 4A about 35mins balanced charged.

I did have BEC, Jazz 40-10-32 ESC and a DPR (50g) in the front to get CG just about right.

There are no flybarless heads left in the UK at the moment, even the distributors are out of stock.

Jonathan - thank you for the photos, very interesting. Clever layout with the "humback shotgun" pack shape. I presume you couldn't get the CG right just by sliding the pack forward because there was no more room in the canopy ?

Not sure if you can get the Vstabi here in Australia, I would be suprised, it us such a tiny market I doubt anyone would carry expensive stock like that, I suspect they just order it in if needed.

Kenneth,
Yes the canopy will be in the way to move it fwd. It you use the Logo 600 canopy, then it will be ok.
