I have a tp1010 that has a 2.3 upgrade. I would like to no how to charge nicad and nimh. I mean what does the delta v mean? Also why does it not give the option for how many cells I am charging? Does it self detect?
Thanks

When you charge nicad and nimh you peak charge them. It supplies your programmed current. It measures the change in voltage over some specific time. If the voltage doesnt increase by atleast the delta V in that specific time its finished charging.

Ok what you are saying is that it detects how many cells i have? What am I suppose to set the delta v at?
The only thing I notice I can do when I charge nimh or nicad is I can set the current.
Thanks

Actually, isn't delta V all about when the pack voltage starts decreasing after it peaks? The charger keeps pumping current until the voltage stops going up (peaks) and then drops by the number of cells times the delta V.

Depends on the algorithm used in the charger. Its basically all the same principle. A better way to determine if a pack is charged is with temperature changes.

Ok so what should I set the delta v at then? Is it generic for nicad and nimh? Right now I beleive it is at 10v.

I believe it depends on your charge rate. My charger doesn't have the option to change it so i havn't looked into it.

I get false peeks if i charge a sub C 1500 nicd pack over 1 amp. If i charge at 1 amp it peaks properly. I also set my delta V to 20mv.

I think this software needs some tuning which I am sure they will do in later releases. Any just what i found best on testing it.

I am really considering getting a good nimh and nicad charger now. I cant afford to ruin my sells. I just charged a 1 cell subc 1600mah and it put in about 1650 until I decided that was enough and stopped the charge.

Dont worry, just charge it. When the pack gets warm its finished.
