what happen to the motor ? you will need a 32-3 NOT the 32-2
heres the part # for the actro motor
part# MA99-900
give ChrisS a PM , this heli is his design , he can help you get what you need .
tail blades , 95mm
Paddles , well that up to you on that one , what style of flying do you do ? if 3D the stock paddles that come with the Ion will work great ,
if you use the actro , you will not need the 94t secondary gear , you will change out the main gear with a 95t and with the actro kit everything is there .

Hi Bill,

Use the same blades and tail blades and paddles with either the Hacker or the Actro 32-3, Performance is very similar. 680 to 700mm mains, I like the Rotor Tec 700s the best, or 680 SABs, 95mm tail blades, stock plastic or NHP or SAB, Stock paddles work great for most pilots including me.

As Tony said you will not use the lay shaft gear with the 32-3, it will be a single stage reduction consisting of a 10 tooth pinion and 95 tooth main gear.

I don’t know what you mean by a hard landing but hacker has been very good about standing behind these motors and has made changes to them along the way to improve there reliability, I would send it in to them regardless weather you go to the 32-3 or not. Hacker will likely repair it at no charge and will like to see what happened to it so they can continue to improve there products. I dought that a hard landing would cause a motor in “sound” condition to malfunction. What is it doing that tells you it has a problem?

Thanks for the come back. First note that Im new to electric. I just got this ion took it out and flew it for about two minits never came up in revs. Then the moter Quits I find out That the batteries were not charged and the controller kiks in. I then have a hard landing. Broke the boom and supports. When I put it back together , this time with charged bats. stilll did not get up in revs and there was a bad noise . So I striped it down and traced the noise to the moter . I then called the guys at hacker,[ I think there in arizona] And let them here the moter on the phone they told me to send it back. So I just fiquerd why not buy another moter anyway in the mean time. I hope this all makes sense

Could I be doing something wrong with my 9z that would make it not have enough revs say around 1200 . Im above 80% in all my modes, even tried 100% with a strait line in Idle up 2. Radio setup is a little tough for me but Im getting it

what did the motor sound like , was there anything physical wrong with the motor? and are you running the esc in gov mode ? the only thing I could figure is maybe a wire coming out of the motor might have been damaged , but that would take a heck of a lick to do that .

<<I find out That the batteries were not charged and the controller kiks in.>>

Will the low volt cut off on an esc kick in at a high enough level to save your lipos if you have it set up right for them? I was wondering about that. I have read it is bad news to go beyond a certain point with them.. Do you guys run the highest cut off point on your esc? Thanks..James

Hi James,

My controllers don’t have low volt battery cut off, I don’t think the new ones do either but I’m not sure. You don’t need it any way, keep your flights to 8 to 10 minuets and you won’t hurt the batteries. When you first start flying this type power system fly for 6 minuets then make each flight a little longer and you will find out how long you can fly based on the amount of charge you are putting back into your batteries. Yes over discharging the LiPos will ruin them, I like to have a 25% buffer which means I shoot to discharge 6000mah out of my 8000mah batteries, sometimes I go over and sometimes I under shoot. Shooting to use only 75% or 6000mah means I am still safe if get carried away and fly an extra minuet. For me 10 minuets is 6000mah give or take as much as 500mah = 5500 to 6500mah, different pilots may be able to fly longer and some may need to keep there flights shorter depending on what there doing with the chopper :glasses2:

P.S. I am only talking about the big Hacker motor controllers used on the Ion and other similar aircraft. Small ESCs used on two or three cell LiPos for light aircraft do have low volt cut off, in this case you can just fly until the controller drops the power off.

Looks like a good formula.. Thaks for that info. Russ.. JG
