View Full Version : JR DS285 digital micro servo issues (puzzling)

I bought these JR DS285 Digital micro servos for my new TREX V2. I like the precision over the analog Hitec HS65 servos that are so popular, however I was wondering if anyone else out there has had any issue with these JR servos resetting their centers. I set them up and found the correct servo arms to make things a nice 90-degree, etc and installed them in the bird. a couple days later, I turn on my radio and power up the heli and at center stick, their no longer level, so I had to readjust everything and add all this subtrim to get 'em back to level again. Then just the other day, I needed to make some ball link adjustments, so with no power to the servos, I manually turned the servo arm upward on my elevator servo to get access to the link and when I powered the receiver/radio on, the servo recentered to where I had pulled it to. I then became curious, powered everything off, manually pulled the horn upwards to maximum throw, pushed it back to center and then powered on. The servo then immediately went to max travel and stayed there with my radio at center stick.

I've never had a servo act this way and especially with JR's reputation, I never expected one of their digitals to be doing this. Any thoughts of what may be the reasoning behind this??? I've swapped receivers, too... and it's still reacting the same, so I know it's not a receiver or radio issue.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks everyone!!

Jeff :)

Hi Jeff,

I have been flying with these servos on my Minititan and I have to say I am very pleased with them. I was previously flying with Hites HS 56 with karbonite gears, but like you I wanted to see if these micro digital servos would prove to be even more precise. Micro servos are definitely more fragile than their larger counterparts but I have had no centering problems so far. Even though it's not a good idea to force the servo arm manually I will try moving one servo arm , after which I will switch on the receiver and DX7 and see it it centers to where I've moved it.

Happy landings
