It's very sad. I understand why some store don't want to ship oversear, it's because of credit card fraud !!! I am glad there is Paypal to counter this situation ( only do business with approved cutomer / seller ).

Hey CBERGEN...
Sorry to hear about your plight. Though it hardly hits me like it did/does your shop, I still feel the sting. I rely on overseas companies for sales and customer support in english.
I wish you the best.
I`m off to your site to see whatcha got. Though if you decline my business, I understand.

I am not sure that I got it. Are the customers and First Data Card Services cooperating in this scam?
Also, who is the main villain here, the customers or First Data Card Services?
Sorry for your losses.

well that just full on weird
i would think it was first datas problem
you phoned them and ran the cards by them, they ok'd them, it should be there problem
any reason why you cant use paypal ?
when i want to buy something off a vendor i just pa them with paypal, then you are protected and i am protected
or does paypal charge to much fees (i dont actually know how much they charge)
i hope you continue with international orders when you get back on your feet, as i order from overseas all the time.
just perhaps you may need to evolve with respect to the way you sell stuff ?
im sorry for your loss, id say something racist against the offenders, but it would be racist inappropriate and prolly get removed anyway LOL
im really suprised they can withdraw from your account, especially when in my opinion they are liable for the losses, obviosly it was a well organised scam that you were on the wrong end of
and i dont know who first data are but it certainly smells like they were in on it
good luck mate

Mate sorry you lost $ but the guys are right its the credit card mobs who are at fault here and they cant just demand their money back after they themselves have cleared the cards. Sound like the clearing co and the card people are just intimidating you into carrying the can. Check with your lawyer.
Shame some people try to defraud but you did all the checks so you cant be held liable.
Use Paypal instead at least they honor their activity.
As an OS customer ifind it frustrating when people wont supply, usually I find they cant be bothered. The many that do have gone through without a hitch.

Wow. I can't believe things like this actually happen to honest folks.
I see you're almost "local" to me, and that makes it hit me harder. I might have to start coming to your place to spend the money, eh?

I got caught with PayPal, so that isnt as safe as you think. Sold a phone on ebay, buyer was in Malaysia. Funds hit my paypal account so I posted the phone and drew the money from paypal to my bank account.
3 weeks later $1,000 dollars got drawn from my account by paypal as the card usd turned out to be stolen. They just helped themselves to money from my bank!
So yes they authorised the stolen card, gave me the money, and then just went into my bank account without warning and took it all back. No money, no phone, no impressed!

I have had a somewhat similar experience, I would avoid doing PayPal International deals as you are exposing yourself to the USPS or the Purchaser... It can happen. :(

It sucks that people do that not only does it rip off honest people but makes it harder to buy stuff from you guys over in the U.S. I can't blame you guys for not selling international with shit like that going on.
The credit card company that check those cards should take the hit for them or at least pass it on to the card holders that lost there credit cards and failed to report them stolen, but i doubt they were stolen just a cover story to gain the funds back and to move onto the next unsuspecting victim.

Sorry to hear such a sad story. You put your blood and sweat into establishing a store only to be hit hard by a scam. I would be devastated emotionally if I had something like that happen for such a large sum of money. I hope that someone does come through for you and you are able to recover some of the loss.

I agree that the credit card companies should take responsibility for most of the fraud that happens. It is their weak security built into the cheap plastic credit cards that allow this to happen.
I don't agree that the card holders should be held accountable in most cases. My card details were stolen from an online site several months ago(interestingly after I bought some heli stuff) so my card itself was not stolen. They took the information from the online site and duplicated my card entirely. They first made a $1 purchase at a gas station to test the card from what the bank said. Then they went to lowes and home depot buying things left and right in California(I am in Florida). The bank blocked the card after they had already purchased about $900 worth of stuff. I was not aware of any of this until that block took place and I could not get gas the same day. The bank refunded my money after 3 days but the bank mentioned that the gas station, lowes, and home depot were the ones that were out the money. The credit card company/bank never had to cover any of these false charges.
This surprised me as I thought the banks and credit card companies took responsibility. This is probably why the credit cards are so easy to duplicate for these fraudsters and not much has been done it seems... The credit card companies and banks could probably care less about the fraud... they just pass the buck onto the stores. Very sad state of things.
Credit card companies really need some kind of security feature on their cards. This fraud stuff needs to stop.

I was under the impression that to make a purchase in person they would need your card which has your magnetic id on the back. Unless the magnetic strip contains only the numbers which were stolen off the net and they duplicated it with those magnetic swipe machines.
But in that situation where you had no chance to notice your card or details were stolen then your absolutely right can't be held responsible.

You don't want to invest in security more than you will gain by reducing fraud (or loose business by making it harder to use a valid card). I am sure that that CC do the right math and find the best balance for their bottom line.

Like I mentioned above... especially since they don't have to pay for the majority of losses. Why should the credit card companies care about fixing the problem quickly.

I believe that selling only to Paypal Verified users would guarantee the buyer is legit.

Uuuhh, bad story Chris! Thanks for sharing. I'm a happy "overseas" customer that buy often in the US with my cc. Untill now never got a turndown.
But letīs cut to the bone: there are bad people, bad states, countries, bad this and bad that...AND I guess there are cc "frauders" in the US too, right?
UNFORTUNATELY we have to realize that moral values and integrity is a degrading virtue. Unfortunately this calls for extra suspicion and alertness, I perfectly understand and agree on that.
Another thread on HF mentioned copies of back and front of cc + copy of bank statement. Good examples of measures that can help diminish or maybe avoid fraud.
Carefully build up good customer relationsships - please don't turn down people at the door - some of us "oversea'ers" REALY depend on US RC shops!

What ever happened to the concept of C.O.D anyway.

Not everyone can be home when the delivery comes. That is what would keep me from using COD.

PayPal confirmed, verified = meaningless terms. I've Ordered a phone from Verified seller. Never seen phone or $$$ back, only "we are sorry, but..." message from PayPal. What a great service.

Its really too bad. The CC Company should eat the cost... they are responsible for authorizing the charge.. It would seem to me that is the entire point. Dont vendors pay a fee to offer credit card as a form of payment?? It should provide more then just convienence.
I think the sad fact is they COULD secure the system, and the funds. They dont care.

PayPal will only verify a USA address, I'm in Australia they say it's not possible to verify my address.
So this cuts out buying through PayPal from a seller that requires a verified address.
Bit of a pain really.
