Guys,

I have a Mini Titan with a Futaba 401 Gyro and the S9257 tail servo. I've always found that when making power applications the tail wonders a bit - but couldn't get rid of it through increasing the gain (or buying the S9257) - and so I accepted it. The reason I bought the machine though was to sharpen up my inverted work, then bring it low level. The problem is I have no confidence at all in the tail.

The last two times I've flown the heli, what I'd call medium speed backwards inverted the heli's tail has spun through 180 degrees and it has almost knife edged into the deck.

I've tried varying the gain, and there's no binding on the tail linkage. Is the 401 up to the job?

Am thinking of trading in the 401 in favour of the new JR Gyro. - the 770?

Anyone changed from the 401 to something else and seen an improvement - or should I e-bay the Titan????

I am running the JR500T gyro and the Align "bat style" tail blades. The tail holds very good and have had no problems with it. What tail blades are you running?

I would say its more of a headspeed problem, you running it slowish ? I've also changed out my tail blades to the trex ones. If you should consider a new gyro the new spartan 760 might be worth a look, nothing but praise and meant to be up there with the 611 performance at half the cost, small as well.

I say low headspeed.

Thanks chaps.

Cranked up the headspeed today and that improved matters a fair bit - but she still has the tendency to skip out during fast backward flight.

Luckily someone at the field today wanted a 401 quickly for their heli pronto - so I'm in the market for a new one. Am considering the JR770 and the Spartan 680. A friend of mine has the JR770 on a Lepton and it looks brutal in its locking abilities.

I will be keeping the headspeed up and may change from the standard blades if it makes a difference....

Have to say the stock blades are a pile of crap providing nowhere near the lift of carbons.

Try out the Logictech LTG-2100T gyro. Freaken rock solid gyro for only $100 bucks. Though, you got to go through some steps to get it setup propery which most people don't do. I got it on my Mini-Titan and it now holds better than my 401 on my other heli. Key to setting up this gyro is to find the no drift zone in rate mode. Once you find this by adjusting the servo position to where there is no drift in hover, your Tail will Lock Solid anywhere you fly!!!!

Thanks guys,

Have always used Radix Main blades - but up until now have just stuck with the standard tail blades. Think I'll try some other tail blades after reading your posts. Some Align or T rex ones then... Guess they are slightly longer giving more T/R thrust?

OH!!!!!! I thought you were using the TT woddies on the mains. The stock tail blades work fine...... just make sure they weigh the same.
