Hi again,
The other day when I came back from flying I noticed that the one way clutch on my R60 was jammed. I took it out soak it in alcohol, brushed it and re oiled (with tri flow type of oil) and it seems ok now, but...
Is it safe to keep flying it? or should I toss it out?
If it jams on flight (which probably did already, but not sure) what is the most probably outcome? (I'm not into 3D just some gentle FF, some loops and rolls Autos only in an emergency).
It seems to me that as long as the engine clutch is working properly there is no much use for the one way, but there should be as reason why they put it there:dontknow.
The only reason I can think of for it is if you cut throttle suddenly (but only to a point where the engine clutch is still engaged) the main rotor would need to drag the engine until it reaches the new head speed.
Am I missing something? or the one way clutch is kind of a safety/luxury type of device (more of a 3D flyer type of device?)
Thanks to all those that help me be a bit less ignorant:thumbup:

The machine at best will have the added frictional drag of the clutch bell with the auto hub locked up which will degrade rpm some even with the clutch fully disengaged and after rpm recovery. When the engine is brought to idle the clutch being ingaged will drag down the rotor rpm until it slips, during slippage the rpm will further degrade. Can you still auto the machine? Sure you can but it will be more critical as you've dumped a bunch of stored energy. Would I still fly like this? Certainly. Would I do critical aerobatic autos? Likely not. If your engine hangs up in an auto and it will with the auto unit locked (and the clutch is dragging) you will see continous rpm losses.

Think about what happens when you bring power back in slowly and the clutch starts to grab/slip.

Stephen, thanks for jumping in.
That is pretty much what I thought, just some extra friction, that of course, in a critical situation would screw you up, unless you are the "auto master" anyway as for my other question... Once this happens, it is ok to just unjam it, oil it, and it is as good as it was or it became a toss over?

hi Fernado,

That's to 40- 80 dollar question I can't really answer since sometimes you can get it to work for a while but often you cannot. I'd give it one cleaning and lube and if it jams again bin it. There are many snake-oil remidies I've read about but not tried. You could also use the Quick UK unit since reports on it are positive, it's bigger, pricy and heavier though when consideration to a standard 90 or 3-D version is made.

Thanks again, I think I'll do that. If it jams again I'll pass the one on my 90SE to the R60 and get the QuickUk one for my R90 :YeaBaby:
