hi there all im newbie here

i have a 9z and gy502 gyro and was needing to know how you setup yours on the 9z just want to make sure im doing it right...

radio setup
on gyr screen i have it setup with duel mode at 80% gain on 1 and 2
on atv screen i have rud at 140% on all flight modes
on atv screen i have gyr at 100% on all modes
on afr screen i have rud 100% on both rates on all modes
on afr screen i have gyr 100% on both rates on all flight modes

gyro setup
i changed no setups on gyro just as it comes
on gyro screen i get a 60% gain
is this correct or do i need to change anything

any help would be great thx mike george :lol:

If your using the DUO menu on the radio and have the precentage set to 80% in both rates. Then your going to be in AVCS or Normal all the time.
In the DUO mode 0 to 50 is one mode and 50-100 is the other mode.
Since you have both them set to 80% that is why you have 60% gain showing on the gyro screen. Each precentage point in the DUO mode means a 2% change in the gyro gain. For Example 100% in the DUO menu would be 100% gain on the gyro in either AVCS or Normal.
80% setting you have is 20% less than a 100%. 20 x 2 gain points = 40
100-40 = 60% gain.
Now to make the other mode of the gyro the same gain, you would need to set the other number in the DUO menu to 20%. This should then show a gain of 59% in the opposite gyro mode.
There is always a 1% difference in the gain settings in the opposite modes if the precentage numbers in the DUO mode are the same opposite value.

Hope you can understand the above.

Now for the rudder piro speed. I use the rudder AFR's in each flight condition in the 9Z to control how fast I want the heli to pirouette.
If you want to use the AFR on rudder instead of the ATV. Then set the rudder ATV back to 100% in each direction.

You will need to make some changes in the gyro menu. You need to set the travel limits for the tail rotor in the gyro menu. Scroll thru the menu till you come to the limit screen. Then move the tail rotor control fully to one direction. Adjust the number in the limit screen till the tail pitch slider is just about to bind in that direction. Now move the stick fully to the opposite direction and do the same again for that side. This is how you adjust the servo travel for the tail with the GY 502.

That should get you started.

ok so my setting are ok just wanted to know if im good or not...i was told 60% avcs maybe to much been hearing about how i shouldnt go over 35% avcs because Jason Krause's website help on gyros says it...but thats for a gy601 gyro not a gy502...thx david are you going to the mayday funfly i'll be there :lol:

The GY series of gyros do hold very well with even a low gain setting.
I advise pilots to back down the gain to the point that gyro is just starting to not hold. Then increase the gain back up about 10% actual gain from there. With the higher gain settings the gyro is not really holding any better, but it is putting a lot of strain and wear on the tail servo that is not nessecary.

I will be at May Day, that is my plans at this time.

What exactly is the AFR? Why use it if it does the same thing as ATV?

AFR= Adjustable Function Rate
ATV= Adjsustable Travel Volume


AFR is similar to ATV in a respect.

I use AFR because it takes in account any mixes that might being used. Also using AFR the neutral point stays the same and does not shift like when ATV is being used.
