I have a chance to get a new 12Z for a very good price. I have no experience with either radio, I currently use a 9CS. I know the new 12FG will come with 2.4 but I currently have everything on 72mz. For now I am planning on getting either radio on 72 and later getting the 2.4 modules.
Can you give me your likes / dislikes about either radio? (I know its not JR)
12Z comes with R5014DPS receiver and the 12FG comes with a R114DPS. What are the differences? Were their problems with 5014?
Any info would be appriciated.
Thanks

12Z IMO.
Alluminum body instead of 12FG plastic.
Also, with a 72 MHZ system you can later get 2.4 Ghz modules and have best of both worlds. If the 2.4 module is built in, you can't use 72 MHZ modules.
Not sure if the 12FG will be built in or modular for 2.4Ghz.. but anyway.. you got the idea ;)

I'm using the 12fg, here in the UK it comes as 35mhz, the 2.4ghz modules aren't available yet. Reading through the specs it seems to have about 97% of the functionality of the 12z, and the 12fg is about half the price! sure the case is plastic and you can't change the physical switches to a different type but I don't think either really effects its use.
If I understand what I have read correctly the r5114dps can be switched to be less sensitive to noise than the r5014 receiver but is slightly slower when it does so. Like I say, I may have missunderstood what I've read.
Is the 12fg a nice radio to use? In my opinion, Yes, BUT I can only compare it to my previous radio a hitec optic 6.
hope that helps.

I picked up a 12Z used. Compared to my 9C the 12Z ROCKS! I was holding out for the 12FG but after I held it at XFC this year, it seems a little longer (meaning hard to reach some of the switches). I have pretty small hands and the 12Z "fit" me better than the 12FG.
My12Z is on 72MHZ and I plan on buying the FAST modules when they become available. I'll be able to continue to fly my 72MHZ stuff as well as fly FAST (SS) with the new modules.
