View Full Version : How do I set idle /w throttle hold for auto's

I am using a DX6 in airplane mode and RTX in governor mode and flying the Trex 450. I have one from Bob (Finless) but have tried others and they do the same thing.
When I flip the throttle hold switch the idle is too high. I can hover (hold it off the ground) for 20 or 30 seconds. I don't think it is rotor inertia because after landing and spooled down it is still idling (has some throttle) like it is a nitro although it may be both. I don't see anywhere to set idle.

After messing with it and reducing "rotor moment of inertia" down from .06 to .01 I think I have it where autos are reasonably realistic for the Trex. I don't think it was throttle. The throttle is off but It still has way more energy from a hover then the real thing and it takes about 30 seconds to spool down to 0.
Edit: Now I have it down to .008.

Anybody have any input on setting up for autos? The Trex was way to easy at first. Any other settings I should consider?

Information on reflex for the finer points like this seems to be few and far between. Since I am figuring this out for myself I will keep posting in case anyone else is interested in the same. I figured it out above in post two and here (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=49172). It is pretty realistic in autos from up in the air but still has too much energy if you hit throttle hold from a low hover. The Sim is great but not supported well.

You are bang on with this Gary it is a factor often missing in most home built models the inertia is a crutial factor in the auto hang time especially when it comes to the final flairing a T-Rex 450 stores very little energy in those tiny wooden blades.
This is a good tip I hate to think some people think autos are gonna be that easy :arggg:
Cheers
