I guess this is directed at Will.
Have you got your gasser built yet and flown with the TRM ? Just wondering how the motor will do and what gearing you need to fly it on a Bergen.
I'm thinking my Fury Extreme wont have long to go before its up for sale. Since I have been flying my Spectra, Gas is where its at, Now I'm thinkin Bergen !!
Just wondering how the TRM does in the Bergen, and what others are using for power...

HI Craig,
No I do not have my Intrepid complete yet. I will be running a prototype TRM 260 in it. The Intrepid has a few gearing options, and I have not completely decided what I will run first in it, but I do know since it is the EB (Extended Boom) version I will try 810 V's on it first and shoot for arount 11.5-12.5K on the motor. I am 100% sure the TRM 231 would ROCK THE HOUSE in teh Intrepid, it is very similar in weight to the MA Gas Machines, I think a bit heavier in EB form than your Spectra, but overall very comparable. I will weigh mine soon and let you know for sure what it weighs.
I can tell you that what I have built on the Intrepid has been very fiine, easy to assemble and of the highest quality. I would DEFINITELy recommend the Intrepid Gasser EB kit to anyone and next time I see you you are welcome to fly mine as always you are welcome to any of my machines. :) The Intrepid has a TON of standard bling parts and al lthe controls are pull-pull and super smooth and there is no slop whatsoever. Very nice, you will see next time we fly together.
I know you have the gasser bug just like I do and you would certainly LOVE the Bergen Gasser EB Machine!!!

shoot for arount 11.5-12.5K on the motor
That baby better be balanced real good ;)
That seems a little high in RPM for that size motor. If I understand right, most of our heli gassers like to run around 9800rpm. Boats run theirs at 12-13K and planks at 7800 (no clutch).
Haven't weighed my Bergen gasser but I'm sure it's heavier than the spectra. :dontknow

The fast boats these days are running over 16K on their 260's. I have no idea about the planks...
We can run the current Zens from 10-13+K depending on the model. The 231 likes to revvvvvv. the 260 is more of a stroker. Somewhere between 10.5 and 12 should be the sweet spot for the proto 260. Time and testing will tell. :)

The Spectra G's (7.15 Ratio)at 1750 headspeed are turning the 231's at ~12,500. The 260 seems a lot better suited to lower RPM, but just not sure how much lower yet. At 6.43 and 1800-1900 my Prototype 260 seemed a lot happier at 11.8-12.2.

Just a short update here. I got about two tanks through my gasser with Will's TRM G26 in it this past weekend at the Mcdonough heli invasion.
Head was tached at 1850 in FAST FFF, Rolls were extremely quick, flips were immediate, with not a hiccup from the motor after getting the needles set in. I'm running it with a 6.43 ratio, and the engine seemed very happy at that RPM.
Obviously more testing is needed, more time needs to be put on the motor, Will said he had about 3 gallons through it already. But I do have to say that thing was smooth, powerful, and definitely added to the "wow" factor.
If all goes well, in time, this motor may be offered. It is not available right now, don't ask, sorry
It should be well known by now that I have said the G26 in stock form can be run in the Intrepid. Others have said it's a shaker, we haven't seen it. While there will always be those that have to have the most powerful thing made in their bird, I would rather go with dependable power, than the highest output I can get for a little while.
This motor is exciting, no doubt. I want to find out if the machine can handle that power over the long term.
More to come.

Thanks for helping test Chris. The motor seems to run really well at 6.43, but it is definitely not its happiest at 7.15. Chris was running the motor at about 11.8K and as he said, it seemed good with no vibs at all.
I will be running approx 1K less or so than Chris with my Extended Boom Version of the machine and 810mm V's. I will report back once the machine is flying.
It is going to take a lot more testing for us to know if it will ever be able to make it to production. Once it does, it will most likely be offered exclusively by Miniature Aircraft like the TRM 231. Don't get your hopes up yet either as months of testing still need to be completed, especially through the heat of the summer. If the TRM 260 is ever to be released, it will definitely be after testing in the heat of summer has been completed. We also have to determine what RPM ranges the motor is happy with.
Time and testing will tell. The main point here is that we (TRM) ARE testing and we are trying to bring you guys in the gasser heli community more user friendly and vibration free motors that have a wider power and torque range then the ones currently available from other sources.

I am really impressed with the TRM 231, with a full load of camera gear I can pull 11 degree's of pitch without bogging the motor, I cant imagine what it would do with a 26 on it.
I guess I will be selling my Fury Extreme to fund a Bergen, I just finished my Review article for the Spectra-G that will be sent to MHT for Publication. I think if I get a Bergen I might do a Shoot out article on the two of them, might spark more interest in the Gassers. I will need a 3D pilot for some of the testing, so I may need to visit friends down in Georgia hehehe what an excuse to get out of the snow !!!!!!
Thanks for all the input

Will....Chris let me fly his Intrepid with your motor in it while at McDonough...all I can say is HOLY $HIT! :WOW Man was it fun...I am getting old and it was getting towards the end of the day so I wasn't seeing Chris's US Flag canopy very well so I only rolled and looped it before I handed it back over to Chris but the little I flew it, man did it really ROCK! :thumbsup2:
I want one for my Intrepid!

Chris, did your machine have the Canfield balancer on it? I don't think other gassers even offer it?!!! If so, that's why you didn't notice the "shaker" aspect of the motor being discussed. But, if you were not running the balancer, then I'll just STFU and go hide in a corner somewhere  :noteworthy
Keith
BTW I was with Chris when he throttled up on his machine and it jumped vertically so hard that Chris...emphatically stated " Holy Smoke! Did you see that? It jumped out of my field of vision before I knew what was happening!"
