View Full Version : Mini Titan leans to right ... why?

I have flown a total of about 8 packs with my new Mini titan. This is my first RC Heli so iam only hovering at this stage.
After the first 3 or 4 packs and a few hard landings (but nothing broken) the heli started drifting to the left and leaning to the right. I have got rid of the left drift but the heli still hangs to the right. It hovers reasonably stable like this but iam sure it could be a whole lot better.
The swash plate looks to be level and tracking seems to be fine but I am not very experienced at checking this.
I am using training gear but I dont think that is the problem.
So what could it be ?? Any ideas ??

The tail rotor blows the heli to the left, its called translating tendency and happens with a clockwise main rotor. You need right cyclic to compensate.

Its normal they all do it. Even the real ones though most of them lean to the left because they have a left hand rotation main rotor.

Yeah just didnt think it should lean this much and it didnt seem to lean much at all for the first few packs.

Cuda's got it. I can pretty much guarantee that it has always leaned the same amount, you probably just weren't as critical of it before.

Thanks for the info guys,
I also wondered why this was happening in a hover.
especially when you look at the tracking with the horizon in the background.
Now i have Carbon blades it seems less, is this because they have less drag than the woodies and the tail has to compensate less?

I wouldn't have thought that the type of blades used would make any difference. The fact that all clockwise rotation helis hover right skid low is a constant source of problems to beginners, they try to trim the heli out to hover level and it always keeps drifting left rapidly :)

This only causes problems when you buy a Vario heli as this has anti-clockwise rotation and hover left skid low, after years of conditioning this gives me trouble!

Yep, I reversed a Logo 10 for my Approach Engineering Cobra and ran into the same problem, I keept trying to trim it right because it was leaning left.

Yeah thanks for the info everyone. It probably was leaning the same in first few packs. It was the first time I had flown a heli so I was thinking of other things at the time.
I think the training gear would make it look worse than a heli without it also.

There's certainly plenty to think about during your first flights and watching the skids probably comes way down the list :) Because of the wider base of the training gear it will make it look particularly bad.

The other thing is it can be more or less pronounced depending on the wind direction.
