Hi there just had my hurricane kit arrive today and I have a few questions about gear ratios. The company I got the kit from listed it as having the new 1100KV motor & 75 amp ESC is there any easy way to tell the new motor and ESC apart from the older 850KV motor & 50 amp ESC as there aren't any labels on them. Just want to make sure I get the right gearing. Also is it ok to swap out the 42 tooth main gear and replace it with the 61 tooth gear to reduce the helis head speed? the motor came with a 15 tooth pinion and I would like a headspeed suitable for learning circuits and forward flight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Jason

Jason,
There is a useful headspeed calculator for the H550 near the bottom of this page: http://www.readyheli.com/Online_Head...lator_s/81.htm

Here is some info I posted before to help as well
Stock Gaui gears with 14T piunion are:
(61/19) x (42/14T pinion)+ = 9.63 ratio
For the other Gaui pinions the rations are:
14T = 9.63
15T = 8.98
16T = 8.42
Also thew Gaui pinions with the Gaui 61T the ratios are:
14T=13.99
15T=13.05
16T=12.24

Hi!
Would it make sense to take the 1100kv with the 75A ESC even if you just need it for simple 3D and round flights? Together with an 5s lipo with 4000mAh this should be a nice setup with long flight times. I read about concerns about the 50A ESC... and of course there should be enough space for the future.
The main gear has 62T together with an 15T pinion should result in a good head speed, right?

thanks for the info guys - going to set up initially with a 61 tooth main gear and 15 tooth pinion which looks like it should give me a headspeed around 1700 - 1800rpm. Interestingly the kit came with a 15 tooth pinion and 42 tooth main gear which would put the headspeed way up with the 1100KV motor. Going to start my build tonight and hope to have my first flight on it at the weekend - just about to watch the build videos, so a big thankyou to Bob
