I've read so much about problems setting up the G500T Gyro and people always leaning towards the Futaba 401. Is the G500T really that bad, or is it just users not knowing how to set it up properly?
I'm running all JR gear (9303/Digi Servos) on a T-Rex 450 I'm building and would really like to buy the G500T, but am a bit skypical after reading so many bad post and seeing so many For Sale in the classified area.
I've also read the "Setup" Help Memo on the JR site.....it seems to be quite simple after reading the memo...?
Thanks for your imput!

Its not that hard and it works fine.
The 401 is easier to set up though.
What I see over and over when folks complain about the G500T is that they are trying to setup up the same way as the GY401. There are really only two main differences to keep in mind: 1) no LED to tell you when it is in HH mode vs. rate mode, and 2) it does not learn "neutral rudder" at power on but instead requires the tx to be adjusted (sub-trim) to achieve no drift in HH mode.
IMHO, the G500T is definitely a better gyro than the GY401. It feels more solid, has better pirouette characteristics, and is really easy to setup if you... Assuming you don't use rate mode... Forget trimming in rate mode, just set it up mechanically to achieve full pitch slider travel. Then go fly and adjust your gain as per usual.
If you haven't purchased a G500T, you should be looking at the G770T now.

Hi John,
Thanks for your input. Can you explain rate mode, I'm a newbie. You're saying NOT to use it in either normal flght mode and Idle up? Just use Head Lock in normal and idle up?
Also, what is better on the G770T? Isn't that a little too big a Gyro for the T-Rex 450?
Thank you,
Mike
Mike,
In rate mode, the gyro attempts to make corrections based on a error times a gain but has no "memory" of the actual intended tail orientation. This is the only "mode" original mechanical gyros and early piezo gyros had.
Using rate mode is a matter of personal taste these days. I think you'll find quite a few guys that only ever use rate mode to setup the tail mechanically and then never use it again.
The G770T is the same size as the G500T. It's JR's latest gyro and many who have it are saying it is better than the GY611. Also, it's the first JR gyro that learns rudder neutral on power up. No more sub-trim tweaking.

Thanks John.
I looked at the G7000T, it says it can only be used with the 8700G Servo. I'm going to be using a 3400G on my T-Rex. Any knowledge on this?
Thank you so much for your time.
Mike
Don't bother with the G7000T. Look at the G770T.

Sorry John, I misread your numbers, I was thinking G7000T which is matched to the 8900G servo.
I looked at the G770T which can also be bought with the 8900G servo and thought that it was matched too, but I called JR who told me it would work fine with the 3400G or even an analog servo.
I just ordered the G770T. It's on backorder, but I'm not in that big a hurry anyway.
It does look very similar to the Futaba 401. Have you flown it? Comparison?
Thanks,
Mike
