Well.. after it had sat around for about 2 months I took my 30 to the field last weekend. The last time I had it out I did my first auto with a nitro. I did 5 or 6 that day from about 75 feet up and was pretty happy with it.. especially since I brought it home in one piece. It got me over the fear or trying an auto with my Nitros and if I wrecked it has wood blades and all plastic so the crash cost would be really low. Last week I traded my Mini Titan for a new Sceadu kit. I put together the Sceadu and planned on taking the electronics from the 30. I figured it was time to go big with the 30. Since I was taking all of the electronics out of it I wasn't worried about crashing it. Any surviving pieces could be spare parts for my Raptor 50. I brought it to the field and decided it was time to go big... I took it up for auto after auto after auto. They had to be at least 200-300 feet up. Many of them were rough landings, but it was so much fun. I have never flown near this high before. I intentionally dragged the non driven tail a few times across the grass (sometimes ending badly ) I just can't believe how well this heli does... with woodies too. I have only autoed my other nitros a few times since the first ones with the 30 and never from the height I was going this weekend. Got some video too, but I can't access Youtube or Google because my internet access is from a work PC :bawl

So now I have a problem. I love this 30. Love it  It is going to start getting auto duty every weekend at the field from now on. I am not afraid to try the big autos with it because I don't have any expensive parts or blades on it. I can just fly it and enjoy it with no worries. I can't strip it for the Sceadu anymore so I got some other servos for cyclic and throttle but I don't have a good tail servo. I have a 401 for the Sceadu, but no tail servo. My 30 has a 401/9254. I want to take the 9254 for the Sceadu and put a cheap tail servo on the 30. It has no power (3rd owner O.S.32) so it doesn't need a great tail servo, just something that can hold while I climb out for the autos. I'm going really high so I just go full power all the way up... although with the 32 its not a fast climb rate. Can anyone reccomend a cheap servo that can hold the tail for my 30? The 9254 never budges, but I think its overkill for what I am doing.

Maybe a 9650?

I have a brand new 9650 spare for my Rex... would this be ok on such a big heli? The servo mounts in the front on my 30. Is there an adapter plate I can buy to make the smaller servo fit?

A normal 3001 will be good enough for this purpose.

Is anyone interested in seeing the auto vid? Its nothing crazy, no inverted autos or anything, just some simple autos with my 30 from really high up. My first autos were only 2 months ago on a Nitro and less than 5 months ago since my first auto on a Trex so they are pretty rough and still need a lot of work. Good entertainment though if you like watching flying that is less than perfect. If anyone wants to see them, just let me know and I'll find a way to upload them (unless Finless wants to make it another Helifreak vid ;) ).

Let me know if anyone is interested.

The autos aren't very good, but they are great for a laugh. Like I said, I haven't been doing them very long so they still need a lot of work. I'll see if I can get it posted on Youtube.

BTW, in case anyone is curious, I went with an JR8417 on my tail and it has worked perfectly on my 30.

Hey that is a good video, more like us (ordinary people) I mean I saw a lot of the top pilots autos and they look great but somehow subreal.
I did some autos but I chopped a few booms so now I got kind of scared.
Seeing this video I can appreciate more the details of what I do wrong and get more feedback than fron a video of an inverted piroing auto that it's sooooooo! out of my league.
I guess my problem is that when I get low I'm affraid that the rotor is going to stop and the heli is going to drop free fall from few feet, so I tend to hit ground with too much speed.
I think that if I'm a bit more active with collective pitch at the last stage (get it to hover a bit more when I'm at 2 or 3 ft off the ground) I should get better results specially with a .60 heli.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the kind words. I want to get some more practice but unfortunately that 30 has been down for almost a month :bawl My friend wrecked it at a funfly and then I wrecked it again the next weekend on the first flight after the rebuild :DOH

I have had some really bad luck with my helis lately..... Good thing I love this hobby ;)
