View Full Version : 600mm blade Ion-x?

Greetings one and sundry
I am after another electric heli. My heart is saying Ion-x, but the head says that although it has all the right flight characteristics, it is too large.
Along with the size comes extra complexity and cost associated with the larger ESC, dual packs, dual chargers and bigger blades etc.
What is out there on the market, either as a complete heli, or a conversion, that has the following hallmarks:
1 Single pack
2 600mm blades
3 fully 3D with precise flight characterisitics
4 Enjoyable to fly, the sort of model you chose first, and keep coming back to, because it makes you smile.
My list is limited, Missikimo is doing a conversion that may be suitable, an X-Cell 30 with 600mm blades and Hi voltage, but I am not familiar with this model.
The Logo 14 is a posibility with the box and Hi Voltage.
A converted Raptor 50V2 with the box is another, but I am not familiar with the flight handling, it seems to have almost every component upgradable, which has alarm bells ringing in my head over the original design (no offense intended to Rappy owners) where as the Ion is just build and fly.
Slightly smaller is the Logo 10 Extreme.
Anyway, Your opinions and ideas are always as interesting and enjoyable
as they are informative. I look forward to them.
Regards

Stuart,
The Ion-X is not going to work well on 600's IMO. Way too much HP for that small of a blade.
I would not recommend a Logo 10 currently. I have been having nothing but problems trying to get my HV setup to perform.
Any of the Logo's 10/14/20/24 are going to be $$$$ IMO however with you being in Japan the exchange rate may be better.
The Raptor converted to electric would be a solid flyer. The Stock Raptors with only a few upgrades to make them last longer fly VERY well.
In fact soon as someone gets a good configuration setup for one I may convert a Raptor myself to run on 10S. :D
Electrics are really hard to buy these days. There are so many variables to mess with that you really must either buy a combo in the kit (like the Ion-X) that elimenates the motor/gearing questions or follow somebodys proven setup like the ones on TPPacks.com or in the forums.
Best of luck to you and if you can swing the bigger ship the Ion-X is the way to go IMO. :D

if you get a Ion , you will smile all day and after a flight that smile will hurt
Im stickinng with one make of heli , MA , I sold the rest , it was just costing to much , and now I can stick with the best . I have a fury converted and a Ion in the works , its about 94% done . cant wait , and cant wait till spring time ,

A converted Raptor 50V2
There is a electric conversion kit coming out for the Raptor. It's made by a company called Xcite. They have a flying model in the air, a video of this e-Raptor can be found on the "other" site. It looks really good, its very light and they have made the frames from carbon. :)

You need the 3DMP.

Yeah Laurens is right. A 3DMP or a Logo 14 would suit your needs, but if you can get the Ion then I would personally choose that, it's sure to impress you. :)

It'll sure suit my needs but not my wallet.
If I could afford it I'd buy a 3DMP if I wanted a 600mm heli. Look for vid's on it.

Century is comming out with a 30 size elec in a couple of months. If they price it accordingly it could be a bargain. Check out their web site

You might want to hold out just a bit longer Stuart. We are beginning a new electric that fits your needs pretty closely.

Hopefully by Toledo we will have a 50 sized electric ready to go. Looking to do everything from 5S singles to 5S doubles. Is that enough?

Carfull with the MP.... A crash realy hurts your credit card....
Humm i've got the Xcite :) the companie is a one man managment :) www.raptor-school.de
Tough i like it, i would'nt buy one again... I d'love to try a normal rappy with that here in germany hated "box" from TP packs...
IMO, i just canunderstand why theses boxes are good for.... 1 gear mor= more friction = more noise = less power.
ANd a inrunner motor has less tork than a outrunner... But HV makes sens :o)

alot of helis would fit the bill in the 600mm blade size.
Like Missikimo I also plan on a Xcell 30/50 E conversion for 600-620mm blades.
A Raven 50 would be a excellent choice as a E heli.
Logo 20
Intrepid 50 ( In the works stay tuned!)
Rappy 50
I think a box allows a 2pole motor to utilize gearing to get to 50k RPMs which is where they make their power at.

I am flying the V2-BOX converted Raptor now. I really like it, it is the first E-Heli I have ever owned I like. I now have 32 flights on mine and really like it with the exception of how slow it is to roll with the pack so low in the frames, and also the fact that the plastic head parts loosen up every 5-10 flights. Getting tired of the WO Arms and bell mixers getting loose all the time, and having to glue them again and again. Got a QUK Head on the way to fix it. The pros on the Raptor are that it is super cheap to fix and very easy to setup and maintain. I also have a Hyper 50 Glow R50 and this E Conversion kicks its butt performance wise. Once you go with the power of E, it is super addicting!! Those crazy Eskimo Brothers know where it is at! ;) E Baby!! This conversion has taught me that most conversions are inferior to a heli that was originally intended to be electric. I think Tony's E-Fury is an exception to the rule.
What I am REALLY looking forward to is the new MA 50 sized DESIGNED TO BE Electric machine. I will be one of the first to purchase your new design Chris!! This heli should be the real deal and I am already dreaming about flying it.

Yes your fury is a BEAST!!
I borrowed Shannon's Ion a month or so ago and flew it. It is the original hacker setup and his battts are the second gen TP 8000's and had not been exercised so it was probably not the best performing at the time. I am hopgin to fly a hoter setup at some point, but just when I think I am about to something comes up and it eludes me. Get some video of Karl wringing out your Actro Ion and share it with us please!!

ARRRRrriittte !!!!!!!!!!!!!! will do . as soon as my time is up here at work , another week and 1 day, Karl cant wait , he wont fly unless Im there :dontknow
Yeh Karl rang out his Ion on 3ps , didnt perform too good with the hacker setup, but it didnt do to bad either , but the 32-3 in mine performed alittle better on my Gen 2 with the actro in it compared to his tanic 7500s and hacker setup , he needs to throw on a set of 8000s prolites or his 8880s to see the hacker shine good , and he cant fly it till I get home either , its at my house. , good place for it , so he wont mess with it , like change the motor out until more test are done , my actro 32-3 Ion will stay at work , so he wont get to fly it till I bring it home right before we go to Ircha, dang that remines me , I need to update my AMA # anyone have there website ? did a search and cant find it
