Hi Everybody,
This topic is dedicated to helping people new to gassers understand where they have to run their Throttle Curves. Ay you gasser guys know, you have to run a much lower tthrottle curve with a gas machine than you do a glow machinne. Lets all post our curves to give the general public a good idea what to expect.
Here are my curves from the MA macnies I have owned. I will share my Bergen curves once I get them established.
MA Spectra G
Normal 0,12.5,18(midstick),38.5,100
Idleup1&2 100,42,20.5(Midstick),42,100
MA Gas SE
Normal 0,16.5,20(Midstick),60,100
Idleup1&2 100,65,28(Midstick),65,100
**These curves were definitely not fully tweaked. THe motor was not broken fully, but they give a rough idea of what is a pretty good starting point.
What are you guys that fly gassers running?? Thanks in advance for sharing the info!!

Will,
Don't have the TX here, but that SE curve looks pretty close to our 231 powered Intrepid.
She is a workhorse though not a 3D bird. :D
I will check this week when I get the tailbox back from Bergen and I get the Tx from her Daddy. :D

Hey Will,
Are these curves using a straight linear setup on the throttle linkage?
I ask, because Mal did some testing with a non-linear setup that prevented some overspeeding issues with a GV-1.

Yes those are straight linear throttle linkage setup. Even with those non-completely-tweaked curves i can control overspeed no problem on descents by clicking back to normal and also left stick finesse in idleup. That Mal is a tweaker, you have her setup/findings anywhere? There is a curve learning curve to gassers when you are transitioning from glow. Sure is fun to tweak the curves and see how it works in flight. I guess up until I got my first gasser, I really never tweaked the throttle curve on my glow machines, I just let the GV-1 handle it and I had them ballpark enough to work if I lost a sensor. Once I got the SE, I really enjoyed tweaking the curves so much, I tweaked my Extreme/C-SPEC PS and stopped running the GV-1 on it. I have really enjoyed what I would consider a great learning experience working with John and learning how to setup a good throttle curve.
I am really hooked on gas machines, they are AWESOME. I do still have one glow heli left and a few glow planks, but electrics and gassers are where my main interest is anymore.

Funny how we get all these gadgets to go on your helicopters, but working with the basics will always make you a better pilot in the end. :D
I learned on an old JR mechanical gyro and didn't get a Governer till 3 years into flying. Then it was to try and arrest the original Sceadu 50's overspeeding issues that I couldn't get out with the throttle curve.
Now I still have one GV-1 on my Extreme, but when it quits I don't usually notice it because my throttle curves are tweaked to fly with the Gov off anyhow. :D
Nice idea about flipping into normal....

Exactly Jason, it is hard to know when you start out who to listen to as you know there is a lot of conflicting advice.
Nice idea about flipping into normal....
I wish I could take credit for it, but it is another John Garst tip. John has helped me and a BUNCH of other people in a HUGE way to get up to speed with the gas machines.
Thanks John!!! :noteworthy

With a Toxic sitting on the shelf and a Spectra on the way I really need to understand this.
I don't understand why flipping back to normal makes a difference, why not just put your Idle 1 low spot low enough to control the overspeed?
I'm hitting a brick wall on this one! Can someone please give a detailed explanation as to what is going on?

If you like to throw th heli around in I1, then you will need a little more throttle than you gan get by with in Normal which also helps control overspeed in decents. By clicking back to normal, you get the best curve for I1 and also Normal.
It is personal preference, don't worry about it until you fly the heli and see how it goes.
