I installed a new 7s A123 battery and was hovering low to check flight time of battery. At 3.5 minutes the heli set down like the battery was low. Turns out the front main gear appears to have melted to the point that it no longer engages with the motor pinion. The batterys were cool to the touch but the motor was to hot to touch.

Is this common? Suggestions? Anyone making a upgraded gear to solve this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

There are lots of posts on the Revco gears. Were these the newest OK gears or the original Gaui gears? I have about 10 or so pretty hard flights with a Z30-1100kv motor and no hickups yet.

my main gear also looked like it had melted off
It appears that my mesh was just slightly out and all it tooke was one flight and no more teeth left ( New OK gear)
Installed new gear with just slight backlash on pinion (cigarette foil thick) now after numerous flights no problem with gears (Old original gear)

It was an original Gaui gear (no OK stamp). I searched for the Revco CNC gears b but could not find the first main gear 42T. I'll try the OK gear. Thanks.

Well its possible that you had some frame flex but if you are flying the stock system I doubt it. My guess is it was only because you were using the older style gears. Ready heli might have the Revco's in stock, if not the "OK" gears should do the trick for you.

Pheniox.
Thanks for the info. It turns out that I do have the OK gears. I didn't notice a lot of wear in the bearings but plan to change them anyway. My service manual shows two 6x12x4 bearings used for the front main 42T gear. This bearing is not listed in Redi-Heli's parts list for the Hurry. Where did you get yours?

If you have OK gears, than there is a real problem in adjustment between 42T and motor gear. How did you fit them together? One way is to put two layers of newspaper paper in between the gears and get them together as much as possible. Tighten the motor on the motor mount and remove the paper. I did that and it's running for more than 10 hrs without any problems-

Other thing is the bearings. Old one way shaft has two, new motor mound supported longer shaft has three. You should get that upgrade. It saves money.

Last but not least, bearings. If you have a problem with bearings, stop flying, get your local bearing handler. All hurricane bearings are made according to well known standards, give your shop the measurements and get real bearings. GAUI bearings are a joke. I'm replacing them one by one, as soon as i find problems on running.

I got the new O.K. gears. After "i dont know how many" flights still no problem. But the hot motor thing sounds familiar, Running 7S A123 as well on the Gaui 1100kv motor. Reading your story i think the heat can be blamed in that direction. I would like to know if there are other people experiencing the same thing. With A123 or with lipo's. Because the motor still keeps performing good. But the heat is worrying me a bit.

Also...Is there anybody that can confirm if a FP 6S 4900 or 5000 will fit under the canopy? I dont care about weight too much. I want too slowly transit too a trex600. Plan is to buy 2 6S lipo packs first and hopefully be able to fly them on my hurricane. Later on buy a 600 kit.

Thanks,
Maurice
