It turned out to be a great day here except the winds are a bit strong. I made a lot of progress flying the Gasser as I finally was able to do stall turns. Loops are also getting pretty good. I'm still too chicken to try a roll. I do all that stuff with the Raptor 50, but the Gasser still makes me nervous. I did three flights each with the Gasser and Turbine.

Since the Turbine is running great I decided today would be the day for my first loop. Even with the wind not in my favorite spot I gave it a try. It was really high and not pretty, but it looped great with more power then the Gasser. The wind gave me fits as I came out of the loop, but banging the sticks got it back where I wanted it quickly. That's all I needed for the day, so I packed up and came home.

I'll try again tomorrow if the weather holds out.

Glad you are having fun with the birds ... I have been so busy with work and home that I haven't seen the flying field for a few weeks. :(

Awesome, Lou. Do you really think the turbine has more power than the gasser? 'Bout time somebody gave Greg a run for his money.;)

Got three more flights in after work tonight. Both birds are flying great! I didn't have the nerve to loop the Turbine as I felt a bit off with the gasser. My stall turns basically sucked and my loops weren't as clean as I'd like. Too bad it was a great evening with very little wind, but the light is getting really flat as the sun is starting to set earlier. I've got to build more confidence and work the sim more so I can try a roll.

To bad there is no turbine model for the sim. Maybe we could get Greg or Larry to create a model for RF.

I think that Malorie started an EB for RF ,,, and some one I think took it to finish it ,,but I have never seen it yet .... MAL ???!!!! :) And it would let you practice rolls that would be about the same as the turbine ... actually a little harder than the turbine .

Got three more flights in after work tonight...I'm jealous.

BTW Lou, I'm free any weekday evening but Monday.
I'll bring the video camera for that next turbine loop (and upcoming roll) ;)
Thanks again for callin'. Sorry I couldn't make it.

Larry,

I think I have the model that Malorie created. The biggest problem I have found with it is the power source. I run the Hanson 3DMax and it has more power then the the RF model. While I suppose the reduced power would make me a better pilot, I find my collective management with that model really stinks.

I'm loooking for a Bergen Turbine model. It seems that the turbine has quite a bit more power then the Gasser as I'm finding as I push it around a bit. I find myself somewhere in the stratosphere without much effort. It also seems to accelerate much faster. It's going to be a long winter and I expect to have plenty of time for the sim. I'm not expecting to fly Christmas week this year like I did last year. I also hear that it's hard to start the turbine in cold weather. I have one of those radio mitts and it keeps my hands warm, but I look like an idiot standing in the middle of a corn field at 35 degrees.

Of course, here it is late in the flying season and I'm finally getting to the point that I can do a few more things then hover and fly circuits.

Jeff,

I'll have to take you up on that. I'm leaving again on a trip wednesday and I haven't seen the weather for tomorrow. If it's nice, I will fly. I have a nice Nikon D70 with a 300MM lens, so we can probably get stills and video. I also have a Sony Handycam to take digital video. Last time my daughter took video it came out making everyone sick who watched it. Too much moving around!

I'll call you in the afternoon if I'm flying. I'll try to remember to get a camera in the car.

Yes the turbine does want to go fly and wait until you do roll it ,,, very little negative is needed to keep it level on the upside down part.

on the RF ,,, edit the EB and change the weight of the fuse until it feels like the turbine and also take away some of the fuselage parasitic drag,,, etc.

Larry,

Looks like you and I will have to spend some time on the phone with my RF screens open. I can change some basic stuff, but I'm not very good when I get into real deatils. Heck, I can't figure out how to change my throttle curves. I know how to get to teh screens, I just can't figure out how to make changes that work.

I'll see you Sunday as long as the weather is reasonable. I'd hate to drive two hours each way for a rainy day!

Can you send me the flyer link so I can get the address?

I need it for the GPS.

Nikon D70 with 300mm is my weapon of choice as well

Might find a turbine roll in here somewhere

I have to admit that G3.5 is harder than G2 was to do that ,,, but it can be done .

I just looked and forecast now is cool ( 65 -69 area ) and cloudy ,,,no rain ... well so far .

Larry,

Sounds like a beautiful day is shaping up. All that cool weather will probably mean some re-tuning of the machines! With my luck winds will be at 20 gusting to 30 just to add to the normal challenge of flight. I'm stil planning on being there, probably around 9 - 9:30.
