Hello LOGO 500 pilots:
Thank you for your support of Mikado Helicopters. This is in response to several questions and comments on LOGO 500. We’ve become aware of difficulties setting up the Herring Bone gears especially on High Power systems. To aid in achieving the correct gear mesh of the Herring Bone pinion we are including the aluminium motor plate as the standard in the LOGO 500 3D kit.
For those of you who have already purchased a LOGO 500 3D, please contact Aero-Model, Inc. ( 480) 726-7519 and they will supply it to you at no cost. These aluminium motor mounts are available for immediate shipment from Aero-Model in Tempe, Az.
The issue with stripping gears arises typically with outrunner type motors. Under high torque they are not as stiff as other motors and their axes can twist, which has a negative effect on the gear mesh.
We’re not guessing this. Rather we performed a study on our gear test stand to determine the cause for the gears stripping. It showed clearly that the motor shaft is sliding/twisting with outrunner type designs. The aluminium motor plate helps avoiding this to some degree. In addition it makes the correct adjustment of the Herring Bone gears more precise.
For extreme 3D flying (+2000 watts), the aluminium motor plate must be used with the Mod. .7 gear. This will double the power transmission capacity of the Herring Bone gear train. We have thus decided to include both main gears in the LOGO 500 3D kit from now on, i.e. Mod. .5 and Mod. .7 - so it will be the customer’s decision which one he wants to use depending on gearing and motor choice.
The Logo 500/600 itself is engineered for high power. Strictly speaking, it’s the motor design that can be cause for concern, and not the Heli. Combining the properties of the aluminium motor mount and the Mod. 7 gear, Very Hard 3D flying is no problem. Please also take care to set the gear mesh correctly.
If you compare the new LOGO generation to other electric helis in the market, you will see that it is clearly a superior helicopter in many ways. Please understand that it is difficult to cover all eventualities in advance with a truly innovative product.
Thank You for your continued support of the Mikado line of model helicopters.
Best regards
Ralf
