Hi there,

This question seems silly but just want to know the importancy of it.

I'm building a Spectra G and going to put the engine on and so.

What will be the problem if I don't balance the fan. Since I don't need to do it in most of my glow bird but don't know what will happen in gas bird.

Appreciate any of your input.

Have a good day.

you really should always balance the fan, no matter what helicopter you're building.

Depending on the model, the fans turning between 10000 and 17000 RPM's so if its out of balance, it can introduce a buzz into your airframe. It will also make your model slightly noiser, because of the balance condition.

Actually anything in the primary drivetrain, thedriver, clutch, bell and fan are all turning the same speed, so if you have the time, these are good things to spend it on balancing.

Like the above post said, you may encounter vibration through your model if your fan is unbalanced. It's good practice to balance your fan as your engine and model will run sweeter if everything is true. :)

Thanks guys, however, I'm encountering another issue..........my existing Dubro balancer (the one with magnet) can't take up the fan because of the hole in the fan is bigger then the holding cone...........

Any suggestion of the balancer which I can get it in the market to do the job right?

Have a good day

I know this is a video on balancing a MA fan, but the principal is the same:

Check it out !

The fan in question IS a MA fan. The difference will be the lack of collets, but the same type rig may be used (the problem may be with being no top taper inside the hub).

Oppps..... well my bad, but all the better for Joseph !!! Shannon's demo is great and it looks like it would work for any fan. Have fun and be careful if using compressed air.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get the stuff to mount the fan for ballacing using the frozen ice?

The tool parts that Shannon used was a MA start shaft (with no clutch) and two of the older top start cones. He may have obtained a longer section of the shaft, but I am not sure.
