View Full Version : Trex 450 Autorotation realism

It sounds like the stock configs (I'm using the .h beta version of Phoenix) for the Trex 450 make doing autos far too easy. I've been playing around changing parameters like main rotor inertia, AUW, head speed. I can make it harder, but not having done an auto with my Trex 450, I can't tell if I'm getting close enough to make my skill in the sim 'ready for the real thing.'
It would be great if somebody who does Trex 450 autos could give me some parameters to use in Phoenix that would, in their experience, be pretty realistic.
Thanks much.

I'm trying not to picture my bird that way, though sadly, I have an image or two like that burned into my memory.

I downloaded & installed1.04i. Yep, different feel (and blade flapping sound) to the Trex450 autorotation (used the 3D model). But I'd still like to hear from people who shoot autos with 450s as to this new sim's realism.

Its a good but not quite right 450 auto. They are just a little faster to drop and not as stable at the end. but its vary slight difference.

Raven_darkcloud, thanks very much for your input. I'm trying to set up a model on Phoenix that's as close as I can get to realistic auto performance.
With that goal, I modified three paramteres of the stock 3D 450 SE model in Phoenix:
Weight from 2.2 to 2.79
Pitch from +/- 13 to +/- 11
Blade inertia from .07 to .05
This setup makes it harder than stock, for sure. But I wonder if you could suggest further or other mods to make the model more realistic in your experience. Maybe you could fly a mod with theses changes and let me know.
Thanks very much for your time.

Well I do fly my 450 with +/- 13 pitch but fit it to what you fly. blade inertia is better at .6 for simulating align pro-woodies. a 450 needs forward momentum to auto. I will try the change of weight.

Anyone have an update to this thread for making the 450 auto more realistic. I have never auto'd my own 450, just throttle hold from 15ft in a strong wind. But I've used AFPD and the 450 autos were very difficult and "seemed" more like what I was seeing on my 450.
So let's get some more recent info from all you guys that can auto a 450 in real life!
