I have heard some of these guys are using a 7.4 volt lipo unregulated on their helicopters with the spektrum radio system, JR servos and no meltdowns. Does anyone have any more detailed information on this?
High voltage = free power and speed!

I was told by Paul Beard that the receiver is already 7.4V ready. The only question is the servos and I don't know the answer to that.

From what I hear 8.4 is ok to survive even for the FM..... who would know?
but I can't imaging just any servo can handle that voltage with that little motor trying to hold position. So we can shoot full voltage through the rx and then just regulate the gyro? what about governor it too gets it's power from the RX?

The servos I have heard survive unregulated 2S are JR z9000s and 8717 servos.

alan szabo is running the 8717 on straight 2S. I confronted horizon on this and of course they obvious response from horizon is there is NO servo that can handle more than 6V.
