I've got one of these batteries and it was slightly damaged in a crash. It's now emitting a sweet odor and my balancer is saying it's more than .20V out of balance. My feeling is, since I paid so much for it, I should get a few dozen more flights out of it, wacky smell or no. It flew OK a couple of times after the crash, I just put epoxy over the blade cut on the cell.

Should I:

A) Get it the hell out of my house.

B) Keep trying to charge it until I get it to take some juice, then treat it as normal.

Actually, I'm taking is outside now. I guess I'm out $299.

It'll eventually die and may even leave you in a bad position when flying. I punctured one cell on a 3S battery a while ago and it took a charge and flew well for about 8 cycles after the crash. Then all of the sudden my ESC would pulse low voltage cutoff after about a minute of flight. Basically that cell is in it's dying stages and will drop off quicker than the other cells causing your overall voltage to drop below what can be delivered to fly.

You do know that Flightpower has a crash replacement policy and will cover 50% of a replacement battery. Contact them and they should take care of you.

Soak the damaged battery in salt water to dispose of it, or if you are up to the task and the risk you may be able to turn it into a 5S pack for some other smaller heli.

I think I'll contact FlightPower and try to get a new one if I can, at qa reduced price. Thanks.
