View Full Version : Raptor Titan slow to perform/roll/pitch

Hello,
I have been flipping, rolling, inverted hovering my raptor for a few months now. Problem is, she just doesn't roll and/or pitch quick enough.
I can crank up the engine rpm and it still doesn't roll as fast as the engine rpm would suggest.
Are my stock futaba 7 servos the problem here?

Hard dampeners, green paddles, 7 to 8 degrees of cyclic and 2000 rpm on the head.

Ok, so my servos are not the problem?
I'll have to get with you about the head speed. I never got around to buying my governor.

a governor wont tell you your headspeed (well.. most of them dont) your going to need a skytach or the such.

What servos are they?
Most governors these days (revlock, gv1, aerospire multgov) can be setup without a tach.

S3151 servos
I have it set up to get 7 degrees cyclic pitch, but not sure if the servos are strong enough to force it to that pitch when under load?

Those are bottom of the barrel servos, 9252 or 9451s would be much better.

Ok, I'll look into those asap.
I just got off the phone with heliproz and ordered a GV-1 governor and the ultra light paddles

Hope this will help my heli out a little.

Update:
I got my delivery of a new GV-1 governor and those ultra lite paddles from heliproz.
When I took the governor out of the box, the Contrast screw was totally missing, not there, gone. So I had to reorder and send this one back.
The paddles don't seem shorter or skinnier, but I guess they're lighter and will perform better, so I sat down and started looking over the main head assembly....
Turns out, I connected the flybar levers up on the 'short throw' settings. lol. I re-read the manual and sure enough, when I first assembled this helicopter, I set it up for non-3D settings on the flybar levers.
I guess that's why she was soo sluggish on the flips and rolls huh? :D

Tell them to keep the GV1 and get a revlock or multigov.
Yep, inner holes on the washout arms will make her sluggish.

well, I modified my washout arms to the performance setting. That went well.
I took off my stock flybar paddles and put on the new blue ultra light paddles. I got one perfectly pitched, then the other. When I went to tighten down the lock screw in the second paddle, it instantly stripped out.
ARRRGH!!!
Not one thing worked from heliproz.
Had to send the governor back and now had to order new paddles.
Guess i'm not flying this weekend.

Hey, I read part of your post yesterday. I just switched my mixing arms to the outer holes after flying last weekend and she flipped plenty fast for me today on the stock black paddles. I was going to hop on here and ask if you had yours set to the inner holes, but I see you've already mentioned that that was the case. It is really a night-and-day difference after just making that change. If your old paddles are still good, you should give them a shot now that you've taken care of that mixing ratio.

If you think that woke it up wait till you try the light paddles.

Pleeeeaassseee.... don't use S3151 servo's on the Raptor 50 when you want to do anything more than hover .
These servo's are almost the same as S3001 servo's, only digital.
I've personally seen a Raptor 50 crash because of the nick servo stripped.
I am using S3050 and S9252 on pitch flying 3d on 4,8V wich works fine. S3050 is faster and has metal gears. After 182 problem free flights only one slightly out of centre because of slop in the metal gears....
Happy flying !

ive used S3151 servos alot no problem only reason they would strip is if your binding them or you crash and strip them, they have more than enough power and speed for a 50 size machine.

I sure do. FourBanger (www.msvorinich.itgo.com) is still running great on the same motor. I need to put a battery on/off switch in the back before they'll let me run the 1/4 mile again. I have the nitrous kit ready to go in, but ain't gona do it till I finish Britney (my supercharged 1990 351 stang www.subzerostang.itgo.com)
My latest work:

I'm building an aluminum fuel tank right now that will hold twin intank 255 lph pumps.
