Hi,
Took my 600n to the field today, started great, but when I put the throttle into it, the blades did not turn. The engine ran smoothly, and rpms were up, but the clutch still not engaging. I cut the engine assuming that I had a bad clutch liner, and never tried it again. I pulled the engine out as soon as I got home and the clutch liner looks fine (even thickness, smooth, not cuts or scrapes, not clutch powder/shreddings, never hot started, 1 gallon since new). Its never been crashed. It flew fantastic last week, and has not been taken apart in 2 weeks. Do these engines (OS 50 hyper) ever start backwards? What should I check out? Should I just put it back and try again? I really need to fly it soon, please help!
Thanks,
J

I've had my OS run reversed on my 600n. It almost died while idling then it seem to keep running.. I gave it a little throttle and it reved up and I noticed the main gear going in reverse. So I turned it off and restarted it and all was fine. If you motor reverses itself then thats usually that your low end needle is too rich.

Thanks.

Mine did almost die, at one point when I first gave it throttle. I may need to readjust the needles since the temp has dropped about 20F since I last flew.

Can be a sign of the main needle being too rich and the idle mixture being too lean.

I've actually had a Hyper 50 cough in flight and start running backwards, it's a very strange feeling to have to auto a heli while the motors still seems to be running well!

I'd agree that this is most likely your problem, the hyper engine does seem to be a little bit finicky at times until its up to temperature, this sort of behaviour is more common when the engine is still running very rich and during cold weather.

Yep, running backwards.

Usually happens when the low speed needle is too rich.

My engine also ran backward untill I adjust the needle's. Once the needles are set the engine will run just fine. Over 32 flight and engine running fine!!
