Thunder Tiger Mini Titan Overheating

Looking for info regarding Thunder Tiger mini Titan running hot - and I do mean HOT! Outrunner motor and esc package came with Heli - Using a 2250 Excalibur batt - After just a 4 minute flight motor is so hot you can't touch it - esc and battery also are extremely hot - have checked all gears, pinon/gear, tall rotor etc etc - everything seems to be set up correctly - rotor spins easy no binding at all. Also, I don't seem to get much flight time - generally I fly 4 min - let everything cool down and then only get another 1-2 minutes - Seems to me I should be able to get at least two 4min flights escpecially as I am a mostly hovering. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?

What blades are you using?
Did you cut the air hole in the top of the canopy?

ive got a trex but the way i set my gear mesh is the main gear has very little play between it and the pinion..just barely able to rock it back and forth with out turning the pinion..... it seems with temps that hot with a 4min run time something is to tight..

TT Blades? (They are to thick causing high amp draw)
Not cutting the hole in the winshield just over the motor?

Check and double check all these things.

Put on better blades (Align Pro Woodies with the TT spacers), check the gear mesh, and check the belt tension. Don't use the pitch and throttle curves in the manual, they have you hover at way too low a throttle setting. You may be running in governor mode and not realize it. The ESC manual has a mistake in it. Setting 2 is Helicopter mode with Governor, setting 3 is Heli mode without governor.

I'm down to 15 amp average load while hovering. I was averaging around 20 before getting all those things straightened out.

Mine used to get really hot with the factory blades. Throw on a set of Radix, they fly great on that heli and your temps will come way down compared to factory TT woodies. Like Lith said, cut the holes in the canopy too, it makes a big difference with the Mini Titan.

The belt has to be pretty loose.
I started with a tension i thought was not that tight at all.
I won 1,5 minutes flight time only by experimenting with the belt tension.
The wooden blades are eating a minute flight-time compared to CF's too btw.
And check the tail slider, if there is still black paint on the tail shaft, disassemble the tail drive and use some fine sandpaper to remove the black paint.
Oil everything that turns.

You should get 7 minutes sportflying this way.

I had a similar high temp problem with mine when i first got it, but i read somewhere else that they will run hot for the first so many flights. Sure enough, after about 10 flights, the battery and motor temps dropped (by about 10deg celsius) and the flight times went up. I also loosened the belt tension a bit after about 3 flights, and that made a bit of difference. Tail seemed a bit more solid too after doing that.

I have now switched to Align pro 325 carbon blades and flight times are up around 10mins, and around 1800mah to recharge my 2200mah 3s lipos

As mentioned above... making sure there is nothing binding and that the belt tension isn't tight seems to make the biggest difference.

Daijoubu, thanks for clearing up the bit about the governor/non governor modes on the Ace ESC. I have asked my LHS and also posted the question elsewhere but no asnwers.
What ESC settings do you run??

And Another question... What is better to run - Governor or non-governor mode??

I'm running everything with the default heli settings in governor mode I believe.

I haven't figured out whether governor mode and a flat throttle curve is better than non-governor and a V or S curve. I'm still learning all of this. The engineer in me says that governor mode should be better, but I know I don't have enough experience with the real hardware to prove that.

Align blades don't work well with stock plastic head.The tracking was out.

It's the TT upper mixing levers that cause this problem not Align blades. Me and my friend both run Align blades and love em.

I love my align blades too. I had to get good spacers (the TT ones work well) and switched to the metal upper mixing arms and flybar control arms. I'm debating on changing the blade grips but think it will wait until my next crash that damages them.

Just upgrade the grips, fly more locked in, and don't crash.
You make it sound as crashing is normal for a machine that preferably should fly around.;) :lol:
