I have a 50 Titan with only about 5 flights on it and the clutch lining is nearly half gone already.
Is this normal wear and if not what might be causing the premature wear of the lining?
At this rate i will be replacing it shortly!
Thanks for any and all replies.

If the clutch lining is "half gone" you should replace it now or you will be replacing the clutch as well (if its not already sprung)

You need to make sure the engine is properly aligned and the gap is correct and it will last a long time. (over a year on my regular flying rappy)

I hate to sound like a complete moron but what gap are you talking about.
This is my first nitro heli and i saw nothig in the build directions about making sure any gap is correct.
This is the Titan which has 3 motor mounting bolts on each side (6 Total) of the frame and by the time you get them all in, there doesnt seem to be much movement that a guy could use to make any changes in alignment.
I will get new lining installed as soon as i can but want to make sure things are right this time.
Why wouldn't TT tell a guy in the build directions that there is a crutial alignment to be made?
They seem to leave a lot of things up to the builder to decide how the thing goes together and this being my first nitro it was a challenge trying to guess what they wanted!

A clutch liner should last hundreds of flights. How do you know that your lining is half gone? Have you used a micrometer or are you guessing? With only five flights there is no way you could have used half of your lining unless you have had multiple hot starts. There is no alignment adjustment that can be made on your Raptor so unless your have a screwed up frame set (very unlikely) and haven't had multiple hot starts you haven't used up half of your lining.

I have two R50s the oldest has over 2050 flights and I'm on the, I think, fourth clutch lining.

First off you can throw two of those mount bolts in the spare parts bin.

Loosen the mouting bolts that bolt the motor the mount and install the motor mount to the frame tightly.

Then while spinning the start shaft backwards with your fingers tighten each bolt on the motor mount in turn. If you feel any resistance in the start shaft, back off that bolt and move to another. When you are done you should be able to freely spin the start shaft backwards with just a slight drag from the one way bearing in the clutch, and all 4 bolts should be tight. If you dont pull the motor from the motor mount you can drop the motor and not have to repeat that procedure.

Setting the clutch gap...
If you install a new liner, take the clutch and wrap it with two layers of electrical tape, butted end to end and flush with the top of the clutch. When you glue the new liner in, push the clutch up into the bell while its drying. When the epoxy dries, remove the clutch and tape, clean off any excess adhesive from the clutch with alcohol and the tape will give you a perfect clutch gap.

both have detailed build info. The rcu one is specific to the Titan

I have had O hotstarts!
Yet my lining is half worn!
You seem to know everything about this heli other than what has been explained to you yet all you can do is tell me that i am all wrong and there is no problem!Do you have any ideas which may be just a shred of help or do you just want to tell me more about MY heli not having a problem?
Please go help someone else as i cant take much more of yours! LOL

I will check all that after i put in the new lining and make sure everything is free.
I sure wish they would have had a few more setup suggestions in the manual!
The whiole manual has planty of pictures but very little on tips for setting things up properly!
Thanks for your help!

sounds impossible did you measure it when new for a comparison or just measured it now and compared to what it should be new? maybe you got a bad liner to begin with.

How is the heli when you start it do you have resistance , do the blades spin up at idle .do you smell the clutch burning do you have binding in the start shaft is the clutch oneway bearing smooth.?????? something dont sound right . you can get a new clutch bell with liner for about 16-19 bucks and compare the new with the old to be sure the old is really half gone. also double check everything while apart and make sure clutch is not sprung .

I have a 50 with about 19 gallons on it and just changed a main shaft bearing i figured id change the start and pinion bearing while i had it apart and threw in a clutch bell with liner although it didnt need it.
