Hi all,
I started on a CX2, then bought a T-Rex. But when it is raining or too windy I wanted something to fly indoors. So I bought another CX2 (sold the 1st one). These little guys are tons of fun!
Any way after flying around for a while, you start looking for ideas of what to try. I thought it would be fun to start a thread of indoor heli tricks. To share ideas and give people things to try. Here are a few that I have been playing with...
1. "Small Surface landing", obvious I know. But try making the area smaller and smaller and higher, so you have farther to fall if you miss.
2. "The Slide". I first did this with the CX2 box ( I want to try a longer slide). Put it at and angle, landed on the top, cut the throttle, slide to the bottom and took of just as the heli slides of the bottom edge.
3. "Multi point touch and go". You can set up multiple landing pads around and make a timed obstacle course. Try to beat your time of your friends time. You can increase the difficulty by requiring forward flight between the points.
4. "Spinning Hoop". I want to try to hang a hula hoop and then try to fly through it while it is spinning.
These are some of my ideas. Let's see some of yours!
I want to get my video camera out and film some and post them. I think we all would like to see CX2 trick videos from others too.
These helis are great fun, let's share it with each other.
Oh, and these can all be made more or less difficult by doing them side in or nose in, not that I am that good, it was just an afterthought for those Great pilots out there.

Do those tricks with the T-Rex :YeaBaby:
I find going down a staircase with my CX the most difficut manuver. Going up is tough but the wind currents are worse when the blades are slower to get the decline. The front hall is allways a challege as well. As soon as I go through the door into my small entrance there is an instant wind shear and my heli tries to drop like a rock. Good times.

The only trick I can do with my T-Rex is a flip, and it ain't pretty. But I am new and always trying to get better (currently trying to master nose in). Some day I will do some mad 3D, but it will be a while.
I too have a 450 SE V2 and LOVE it!
I have no fear of crashing the CX2 so I will try just about anything.
I caught it out of the air once, but I put my finger too high and took out a blade. It did not hurt too much. Didn't even cut me. Put on a new blade and kept flying.

Nice edc, I will have to add that to the list of things to try. I have done hall ways, but never stairs. Have you ever done a video of the stair trick? That would be fun to see.

Put a hook on the bottom of the heli and go "rescue" small carboard cutouts of people in peril. Lots of fun, the person with the most rescues in the allotted time wins. You need to velcro down the base of the "Person" slightly to keep the rotor wash from blowing it away. Even more fun is to also hook up a small wireless camera to the heli and video the whole rescue.Channel 6 news here we come!!

When we started flying we broke so many landing skids, we started hand launching. and hand recovery. Chasing the cats thru the house is fun also. But DONT chase the wife, that gets scary.

I wanted to try the rescue idea, but I thought the wind would blow the guys over. Thanks for the velcro idea, I'm gonna try it.

I think that a useful and fun exercise would be to go out to a garage or warehouse and attempt to do as many spot landings as you can in a fixed time period.
Easy targets would be something like a 6 in. square, drawn in chalk or tape. Harder targets would be elevated off the floor, so as to raise the challenge level and the risk level.
Floor targets could be worth one point a piece, where raised targets would be maybe 5 points.
Let's say that each pilot gets a couple of minutes to warm up and get the feel of the Heli and then they get five minutes to rack up as many points as possible. For purposes for scoring, a successful landing on a floor target would be when the Heli's skids are completely inside the square. For raised targets, you might want to relax that a bit to say that it counts as long as the Heli doesn't fall over! :)

Great idea BryMeister, I like the idea of a points system based on difficulty.

Amen about the wife, My wife drank to much one night, the next morning I decided to fly my CX2 upstairs and hover it just above her chest, well what I thought could happen did hahahaha she jumped and smacked that thing across the room no harm to the heli But she didn't talk to me all day.. hahaha
Maybe that was a good thing....

Thanks! Now, anyone want to get together in the Western Michigan area and compete?

I have relatives in Grand Rapids and others in Ludington. So I get that way a few times a year. That would be fun. It is always fun to fly with new people.

Cool. Next time you're in town, let me know. Maybe we can hook up and fly. I have access to a fairly decent sized indoor environment.

If there was ever a good excuse for visiting your family, it has to be flying Helis! :) Come on over/down/up!

Trying hovering your CX2 in front of a fan. It helps a lot with your control in the wind. When I first flew my T-Rex 450 SE and the wind kicked up, it wasn't that bad, because of the practice I had with the CX2 in front of the fan.

Interesting concept! I'll have to give that a "whirl".

BriMeister,
You could put one of your landing targets in front of a fan and make that one worth big points.
We should combine all of these ideas into one giant obstacle course.

random idea
if i had a cx2 and a buddy with a cx2, id be willing to go out and stock up on awhole lot of spare blades. then rig a stick of carbon to stick out the front of the canopy on each cx. then do some "dog fighting".
or
buy some ballons and stick pencils on the front of the heli and see how many you can pop in x amount of time. you could set it to where in order to get to the ballon you would have to hold a steady hover to pop it..

I like the baloon idea we may try it here. As soon as I can get my buddies where he can get more than 2 mins out of a pack I think we are going to replace the 4-in1

I LIKE the dog-fighting idea, but I fear that may cause way too much damage. The popping balloons idea is a good one. Now all we need is a large, indoor driving range or something and we would have ourselves an event!

put a very small ballon on the tail of each cx with the pencil out the front. then you can dog fight.. a popped ballon means a hit.. or let a buddy try and tag you down with a paint ball gun..
