Can I install Phoenix updates (e.g. 1.04i) directly on a new computer or do I have to install first the older version I got on a CD?
Thanks,
Kam

You need to install the CD version first. 1.04i is an update, not a full version, otherwise people could get a full functioning copy without paying for the license.

You can't use the product without the special USB cable. Really, what you are buying is the connector cable.

An update only updates certain components, it does not contain all of the files, engines and program coding that makes the program function. The install of the update will fail because previous version components do not exist and wouldn't run because all the components to make it work don't exist. So you're not just buying a USB cable for your transmitter.
Just be thankful Phoenix is offering this update "free of charge" and not like Bill Gates from Microsoft who charges an enormous amount for updates to the Windows operating system.

???
My Windows box has automatic update enables and it updates itself for free every few days.
Anyway, since the Phoenix update downloads are so big (ok with me), I thought that it is sufficient to keep a backup of the last one and installing it directly when needed.

You can't be serious?
Do you think the thousands of hours of development comes for free?
The way Phoenix does it, is the smartest and easiest way to copy protect their product.

Peter, I believe that you misinterpreted jrohland's statement. He suggested that since Phoenix uses hardware key to operated, it is safe to distribute the full version, eliminating another hassle from the paying customers.

Hi all,
Kamtsa, I just went through a new install on a new machine. I contacted Phoenix and got a quick reply.
I have a CD with version 1.01, so I had to install the cd and all the updates. You will find 1.04i needs version 1.03x and 1.03x needs 1.02x.
Download all the updates and apply them in sequence.
If you have a later version on your CD start there and apply the later versions. You can buy and updated CD from the Phoenix website, it's under accessories.
Cheers,
Leslie

Thanks Leslie, I was not aware that newer CD's are available online.
