after my purchase of my mini titan and being so impressed with how smooth it flies i wanna upgrade to a thunder tiger gas heli. i keep eyeing the raptor 30 but i dont wanna regret what i buy. i live in vegas and theres always a 10+ mph breeze whenever the sun is up. i want a heli that wont be affected too much by the wind but i dont want some 5ft long monster. im in a toss up between the 30 and the 50 (cant i upgrade to a 50 later?).
also since this will be my first gas heli what kinds of other items will i need? tools and equipment and so forth?
i'll be using my futaba 6ex fasst tx and rx for it (wish i would've bought a 7ch). what are good servos and other electronics to consider for this build?
any and all suggestions will be appreciated. i wanna buy the best items that i can afford but stay withing my skill level (figure 8's right now). thanks,
chuck
well i just found another post that really answers all of these questions. feel free to chime in though.

I have the Raptor 50 and the Trex450. I love the Raptor, however, a lot of guys have the Align 600 Pro where I fly and I find myself being rather envious. The Align is a much quicker heli (due to decreased weight) and if I had the decision to make over again, I would purchase the Align 600 Pro. It doesn't appear to be any more affected by wind than my Raptor 50 is. Also, design considerations are better with the Align, especially the fuel tank and system.
Hope that helps!

First off, I love my raptor titan 50. I flew it one day, was hovering, and along came a gust of wind that was at least 35-40 mph and lasted 3 to 5 seconds. I was able to control it just fine, picking leaves out of my eyeballs. It's extremely stable, and i'm a first time heli flyer. (well since May of this year).
Remember: Nitro is messy. You have to clean the heli after every flight or just don't put it down on the carpet, lol.
My next chopper will be Gas powered. Gasoline.
If you have the means, I would do a preditor.

Chuck, If you are used to the power-to-weight ration of that Mini T, you're not going to be happy with a 30. At least go with a 50. I have no experience wither other brands, but I'm plenty happy with my TT R50 Titan. Aside from the mess of nitro, prepare for a lot of tinkering with the motor and fuel curves. Also prepare for flights that last twice as long and 3 or 4 of them between battery charges :).

I can get more than 2 hours of battery life out of my raptor titan.

Yeah, I'm using the 1100 MAh Rx pack that came w/ my DX7, and I usually only put about 300 back in, but I'm kind of paranoid as I haven't invested in a loaded battery tester yet. Anywho, this just supports the pro nitro argument :).

Using all digital servo's i was getting 2 flights w. the DX7 rx pack. then putting in 500-650mah.

hi ..
I have the raptor titan and the trex600n pro , ok I love them both I have the raptor set up for mild flying were as the 600 is a quicker heli so this is my 3d monster. . . both are great and both have there pro's and con's I would get both (oh I did)
Both are 50 size and are stable I use to fly my 450 out side and that was thrown around a lot, the wind was really an isue with the 450, but the 50 nitro seems to just shrug it off... the only problem I have is the exhaust smoke blows in my eyes...lol
The repair parts for the 600n are cheaper than the raptor, and the cost between 30 and the 50 repair parts a minimal so 50 size is the better choice..
You will need a 50 size engine os hyper is good , you will need a good gyro maybe 401+ s9524servo combo, you will need 4 other servo's , Rx , battery for Rx and servos, maybe a gov but not essential to start... ok and then you need starting gear ontop..
tools well you will prob have them laying around, a must is a pitch guage and a tool to lock the engine so you can fit the fan..
I dont think you can go wrong with either just buy lot of fuel . . .lol have fun..
