I heard fury's need to have there gears changed every 25 flights  . Also somewhere else I heard once you built the fury you'll fly forever. What is the real maintainance that is necessary if you own a fury?

Never heard that before. That would get expensive fast!
With my fury and the amount invested in it, I do try to keep an eye on things. First off, I keep a log book so I know how many flights I have on it. I'll also scribble down any pertinent information, such as if I notice anything funny or made a change, etc.
I'm assuming the gears you are referring to are the tail gears. Truth is, once you set up the mesh correctly, they should last a long time. I'll check them once every 4-5 gallons (roughly 30 flights) - i'll pull the tailbox apart and inspect them, rebuild, and re-grease the tail box.
I have about 80 flights on my fury, so I just did some preventive maintenance over the winter on the fury and did the following:
replaced head dampeners (worn out)
relubed auto bearing
inspected and regreased tail rotor box (gears fine)
checked linkages (fine)
replaced clunk lines (preventative)
replaced clutch dampeners (preventative)
Now having done all that, I was out flying it and on my 3rd flight I noticed that when I was doing flips, the heli was corkscrewing. Sure enough, when I landed I saw that I lost the anti-rotation screw on the swash.
I don't thnk the fury is any more maintenance intensive than any other helicopter out there, but I'm sure others will chime in with their inputs.

Angelo pretty much just narrowed it down..With the open tail gear box you just check out the back because its open where the gears are.

Joel's right. I totally forgot to mention I have the enclosed tail box. Looking to install the open tailbox soon.

Nice to hear there's no real diffence with other heli's. I think there are just 3 fury's here in the Netherlands :(
