Ive talked with Ray N. and we are planning for a BIG funfly earley next year. So the question is...when? Ray is going to talk to a big name, get him to confirm, but Im trying to get an idea of what month?

Will be held at Palomar RC flyers.

A little advice from someone that has been putting on an event for 15 years.
As for the Big Name as you call it. Don't plan your event around any pilot. What I do, is I just set the dates for my event. I sent out invites to everyone I know. If they show, they show. If not, it is not a problem. Where you look silly is when you advertise for several months and then the event don't happen like you advertised.
I have found it is best to just hold the event and let it happen. It will turn into a great event by doing that. At least that has been my experience. When my event started in 1992, there were 35 pilots in attendance. The last 5 years, there has been 150 plus each year.
Some of them the top pilots in the world.

Also you will need the CD to send in the sanction application now if your planning on an event in January. That is roughly 3 months away. It will get in the AMA events listing if you send it now.
Just offering some advice, not trying to offend anyone.

What I am saying it is now late September. If your going to have the event in Jan 08 and it be sanctioned. All the paper work needs to start going to the contest coordinator for your district now. It will take about 60 days to get the sanction request back from the AMA. My event that I hold in late March. I will start all the arrangements and planning around the first of November. I will start contacting for donations around the first of January.
Don't make the event around one pilot. Treat all pilots the same. Most that attend these events know who is who in the hobby. At least that has been my experience. I go to events for the event, not for who is going to be there or not.

Considering the time as David H. suggests April might be better so you all don't get stressed out trying to make it happen... Either way count me in!

Harkey knows what he is talking about trust me but if you can make it happen in January great... If not April is fine. Just make sure it is not on top of another big event close by.

Still need board approval before anything, look for April, that will be the set month.
