I have a similar set-up and love it. The difference is that I use the Lightning 80 ESC from Century. The KV of the motor is 1110 and the voltage of the pack is 22.2V so it gives a great 3D head speed (about 2080) for 3D with an idle up curve of 100%, 95%, 90%, 95%, 100%. (normal is set for 0%, 70%, 90%, 95%, 100%)

I found it to be a very easy ESC to set-up. I use a 1500mah/4.8V nicad for the RX and servos so one must remove the red (+) wire from the ESC plug that goes into the throttle input of the RX.

As for your Pheonix. I am sorry but I am not familiar with it. There are a lot of big electric flyers in the RCG forum. Maybe someone there can help you with your Phoenix ESC.
