I got my update cable and have been trying to install the driver for the USB device and I am having no luck. I ran the pre installer it installed files on my C drive and plugged in the device. No files are to be found. I even pointed the usb device to the correct folder and XP says there are no files associated with the device? XP is installed on my D drive so I remove the files from C re-ran the preinstaller and installed to an identical folder on the D drive and it still will not recognize the files. What am I doing wrong? Never had this many problems installing a usb device before. Thanks in advance.

Have you followed the update instructions exactly. After the driver is installed it will only be called upon when you double click on the 1010c update file. When you do a window will appear and ask you to click okay button to update. It is very Important that you read the update info on TP site FIRST and follow the update instructions that they recommend. Hope this helps... http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/download.htm

Yes I did read everything. The USB update device has a question mark next to it in the device manager and is listed as a usb controller. There is nothing in the ports section about the device. I would guess this is telling me the computer has no idea what it is. I can start the update program and even hit update. Only com1,2 and 4 are listed in the program. When hitting the update button the is an error about no communication. I can hit it one or two more times and the program hangs indefinitly. I never seem to get any replys to inquires to TP about anything. Thanks for the help.

Is there a better way to get ahold of TP? I give up on this thing. I just get the message "windows is unable to find compatable software for this device" when it is plugged in and going through the windows setup screens. I even edited the install files to install on the D drive and deleted all entrys in the registry then re-installed. I know it is a problem with the driver. Program does not work with either of my 1010 chargers. One has 2.0 and the other 2.0c

Windows often has issues with USB devices. One of the ways that I have found over the years is to right click on the yellow question mark device and remove. Then remove all of the USB Root Hubs and restart your computer. It will rebuild the hubs and usually resolve your unknown device issue. A word of caution, sometimes (not too often) you have to reinstall some of your existing usb devices, so make sure that you have the software for them available.

Hope this helps.

Hello RKing.

When I have problem with instaling USB drivers and I want to try to install it again, I found out it is nearly impossiable to uninstall it compleately. Some time ago I had to reinstall windows to get a USB driver working. The easy thing to try, is to try to install it on a another PC.

This is the reason for completely uninstalling the root hubs. When Windows restarts, It completely rebuilds the USB Root Hubs, then detects the USB devices re-adding the drivers. Like you say, the alternate method is to completely reinstall Windows. However, most don't want to reinstall Windows to get a USB device to work.

Hope this helps.

I did edit everything I could find out of the registry, but I know it is sometimes hard to get everything. Will try deleting all the usb devices. Really the only USB uses are my mouse, interlink controller and plugging in the camera sometimes. I really have been dreading doing a total format and windows re-install, but I am over due as it has been a couple of years. Way longer than I used to go but I dont have the computer interest I used to. I know I have USB 2.0 ports but as I read the post I seem to remember they are only on one of the areas, front or back. I will try the updater in the back port and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.

Still could not get XP to recognize the USB device. Out of frustration I did a Google search for A PL2303 driver and found one. Installed the driver set, this one had the whole install sheild setup like I normally see. Not a "pre-installer" XP saw the device immediatly and it is now listed properly and recognized but the update program just sits ther saying waiting for response after upgrade is clicked. I have tried changing the ports but still nothing happens. Still no response from TP by email or from the enquiry form listed at the TP site.

Go into Windows device manager and look to see what the new device com port number is. Then set you updater to this port and it will work. I had to do the same thing.

Good luck.

the modem is usually on com 3. I'd try to uninstall the modem then install the usb drivers and see if that works...

Good Luck-

I tired changing the port #'s to various ones and made sure the device and program matched, does not work. I do not have a modem installed in my computer. Will try the new driver and update, the link device is labeled Ver 1.2 I may try to call TP as they dont seem to respond to emails.

I finally got it to work. Un-installed the link device and loaded the new V2 drivers from TP website. Downloaded the 2.3a V2 software and it loaded right up first try! I really want to try one of the older programs to see if they will work. I have no need to charge other battery types, just wanted the 2.0c that is on my newer charger. That one will stay with what it has. Thanks for the help figuring this out TP ......NOT......
