Does anyone know where I can find a Mode 1 DX7 in the US? I checked Hobby People, Heli Direct, and TechModelProducts.

No love.

Or, is it easy to mod a Mode 2 into a Mode 1?

I am sorry, but I am not form America, so I canīt help you with store. BUt we made a test in our country ( Czech Republic). We ordered DX7 from USA, so it has mode 2. In Europe is usually used mode 1 - so we had to make some changes. We had to change control sticks - their cables. And because it is not made for changes (modes), it was a little bit unpleasant. We had to solder cables again and change some of them, because they were to short. But we didnīt change switches, so control sticks were in mode 1, but switches and software were in mode 2 .....
So my recomandation is to buy it only in mode 1 ( if you are using it ) and perhaps, you must take it from Europe ... (last option), but I hope, some shop can do it for you, or some of them will have both, mode 2 and 1 :). I had the same problem, I am from Europe ( mode 1 .-) ), but I am using mode 2 and I had to buy it from USA, no shop had it ...

Your location is Japan. I would think it would be easy to find a Mode 1 there. Since most of the Japanese pilots I have been around fly Mode 1.

Is the DX7 sold in Japan?

The 2.4ghz radios are illegal in Japan. Well, not illegal, but the JMA will not cover anyone flying with one. In other words, the radios have a de-facto ban in Japan.

Order one from Australia, we are about 50/50 Mode1/Mode2 for helis down here. Originally the local distributor was bringing in factory original Mode1 and Mode2 units. I recently learned that they seem to now be importing only Mode1 and doing a local swap to Mode2. This is bad because all the switches remain in their Mode1 positions :(

Anyway if you want a "native born" mode1, order from Australia. The street price is AUD$530 but not sure if the local discount stores will ship to Japan. If not, the main distributor is www.modelflight.com.au and they definitely run an international online store, but charge the full list price of AUD$570.
