To tell a short story, I was given a small FP heli about 2 months ago as a present, became very very addicted and have become fairly capable at both a real 4ch and a simulated 6ch heli.

I decided to upgrade a little and bought a CP heli, the Twister CP v2.1. The problem is I have followed the instructions to the letter (and this has been flight tested apparently). The swashplate is level, blades seem balanced, theres not vibration yet she yaw's uncontrollably once she becomes light on the skids (too much for even a full left trim to counter).

I've tried adjusting the gyro and have had it at every setting I can think of, any help would be really appreciated, id love to get this bird flying.

Does the gyro have a heading hold mode or just rate mode? If it has heading hold, that's your best bet. If not, you'll have to experiment with the Revo Mixing in your radio to get your tail to hold.

Which way do the main blades turn (clockwise or counterclockwise, as seen from the top) and which way is it yawing? If the tail is yawing in the opposite direction to the blade rotation, you may have a problem with the tail rotor not providing enough force to counteract the main rotor torque.

The gyro gain and mix setting adjustable by screwdriver, it recommends a 90% setting for both. The main blades spin clockwise and she yaws hard right, trimming full left on my radio has some effect at slowing the spin but not enough for me to feel confident bringing her up more than an inch off the ground.

One other thing i've noticed is during spool up the tail 'gusts' for lack of a better word, spinning violently 90-180 degrees before resuming its normal slower spin, increasing gyro gain increases this behavior. I havn't had a heli with a tail rotor before, so im not sure if that is to expected?

The radio that came with it doesn't seem to have any mixing functions (or a manual!) so I might have to try and hook my Optic 6 upto it and see if that will do the trick.

First thing I would do is unplug the motor.
Switch the heli on, let it go through it's arming routine then get up close and watch what effect your stick inputs are having.
Check the servos are doing what they should, even with little experience you'd be able to tell if one was 'off' i.e. not moving as much as it should.
Also check the linkages for either unwanted movement or binding.
My best guess is one of the servos is not behaving itself, so when the collective moves up one is holding back, effectively giving you right or left aileron (which ever way it's yawing).
You've probably watched Bob's CCPM setup vids but if you haven't and need a guide the principle is the same.

I may however be talking crap.

Duncan.

Those videos are very helpful, still going through them but getting a lot more stable after making a couple of adjustments to the servos and linkages.

try getting some info on setup of an E-flite CP or PRO should be very similar
