View Full Version : rebuilding battery packs

I am looking to order a 3 Cellpro 4s' chargers. To charge the packs that I have, I will need the Great Planes adapter which is out of stock and $10 each. However, A Cellpro charging node (am I using the right term?) pigtail is only 99 cents, and shrink wrap is only $1 per foot. So it's cheaper and it's 3 items less that I would have to worry about if I rewire the pack with eh Cellpro pigtail. But I have some questions.

Would removing the shrink wrap from my packs and removing the existing charging node pigtail and replacing it with the Cellpro pigtail be something that should not be considered (extremely dangerous, extremely high risk of damaging cells, etc)?

Also, what else is inside of the pack? I see some tape but I am not sure what type it is. I also see some foam or something soft in my Align pack. Would these materials be reusable?

Is there anything else inside of these packs that I should be concerned about?

Your input is appreciated.

Inside the align packs there is a small circuit board handling the internal wiring, with small bits of black foam at the ends of each cell and one large black foam bit outside. This is then taped and over that in turn is shrink wrapped. You can re-use the foam - I used electrical tape to rebind the pack where the transparent Align tape was.

I was trying to revive a dead pack but I wouldnt have risked opening a perfectly OK pack to play with the wiring.

My rewiring of my Align pack seemed to go OK (pack works fine) but if its just a connector issue why not build your own adapter? Or you could carefully cut the plug off the pack and solder the new one in wire by wire?

Yea. after posting I did consider that it might just be best to just lob off the existing charging jack and putting the cellpro on in its place. I will try that (or another less radical operation) first. I

Thanks!

Are these the pigtails that FMA cells, or is there a different place to get them?
