I just bought a TREX 600. I've been flying a HDX300 which is pretty squirley......
I think I rebuilt the Heli about 50 differant time trying differant pitch adjusments.
I'm looking to do a lot of hovering for awhile with slow elevations and mild cruising. The HDX 300 didn't allow that, one small gust of wind 4 mph or better and I was all over the place. Does the TREX 600 have better stability with mild Winds??
I might have some questions later on the build. I'm pretty familiar with Jet Engines and setting them up on M1 Tanks...Purdy Mechanically enclined...

The trex 600 can handle some pretty heavy winds if you are quick with the collective. but any heli will balloon in the wind. I have flown my 600 in conditions I wouldn't even think about flying the 450SE in, and I had a lot of fun! :D
but my opinion is a little biased :P see sig ;)

Yes the T600 has good wind resistance, for a model helicopter, though as Bullaculla points out any gusts will 'balloon' any heli due to increased lift. I'd say flying in up to 10 kts relatively straightforward and gusty wind can be challenging (and fun) - the 600 is also very customisable for handling - lower headspeeds and flattening out the pitch curves around hover can make a very docile beast.

That sounds good. I wished I some more watch time with other people flying them. The experiance I have is self tought and G3.5 Flight sim.
I know they only thing that helps is real time..
After looking at some of the Safety threads, I'll stick with low and slow for awhile.
Thanks for the help.. every bit helps when your spounge for info,,,,

I also have a couple questions about what to put on the TREX 600.
I've look at a lot of threads about components and I was thinking about installing a GY611 / Futaba 6EXH 6-Channel FM Micro/4 S3107 Servos 44 (http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=104&products_id=2192). I was also looking at the 10s 44 V Lipo. Would that be a pretty good combo. And is there anything that goes with a setup like this that adds more functionality to it?

Hmm if that 6EXH was anything like my 6 channel FUtaba I'd avoid it like the plague as the set menu was horrible - those micro servos ain't big enough for the 600. FM really isn't up to big helis go PCM or better still 2.4GHx SST - suggest you carefull consider the Specktrum DX7.
Getting into greater than 6S packs on the 600 is a bit of a specialised area, can be very expensive and although capable of giving great results is not necessary for newcomers to the heli - thew stock heli and stick 6s setup performs GREAT !

That sounds good then. I'll stick with the OEM Lipos.
Spectrum DX7. I saw that one, You have to get the Servos separtley. I saw a Build guy putting 3050 Servos on it. Is that a good choice ?

That's a great idea to get the radio without servos - many think the stock servos a bit marginal for using on the T600 so you can choose your own - have a browse on the T600 forum for 'which servos' as it's a frequently discussed issue. The 3050s seem quite good from their spec - 0.16s is about as slow as you'd want to go - the torque of 6kg is good. They are also rated at 6V which not all Futaba servos are. Metal gears probably good choice for learning on as they don't strip with blade strikes.

Thanks. I picked up the DX7 yesterday. I looked at all the programability ,, Very Nice...!!! Still waiting on FEDEX Everything should be here tonight,,,
I went with the GY611 and the 5000 MAH 22.v s 1P. I hope to have it together by this weekend...

The Trex and the DX7 are working pretty good. I finished the build about 2 am and had to call it quits,,,, Today I was trying to program the DX7,, Everything is working good except the throttle. When I push more throttle the right servo only goes up??? I guess I need to do some more programming to fix that.. Would you know where to start?

press scroll down and select THEN turn on the dx 7, go to the swash type menu and make sure its set as 3 servo's, 120 degrees. that should sort out your problem.

Thanks !!!!! That did the Trick,,
I'm still learning that DX7... Still a little lost with some of the programming,,

There's a video in Finless' Forum about DX7 programming, probably worth a watch. Actually, pretty much every video in there is worth a watch, they all give you something.

How about a quick suggestion for head speed and settings for a flatter pitch curve to tame the beast? What has worked for you?
Seems like the best way to tame down the collective while learning to hover this much larger heli.

Meant this to ask Mercuriell or others about lower head speeds and flattening the curve. Sorry for the double post
Your input is appreciated on suggested settings for a five point curve..

Limiting swash throw is the best way to tame it down. Try to lower the max swash tilt angle. Lowering the head speed will result in a unstable heli. around 1800 is a nice smooth speed i found. Also a little expo wont hurt either. Will make swash travel around center stick a little lower, but will still give full deflection at extreme stick positions, like when you get into trouble. Try hovering with around 20% expo on the elevator and aileron. also putting the mixer arms on the head in the "stable" holes will help. You want to keep you max pitch atleast +/- 9-10 degrees.
with the 10t pinion, 90-85-80-85-90.

Wow, I finally fired up the TREX600. Noisy,, Had a Blast,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I only got it about 6" off the ground hopping around the front yard. Had some minr technical diffaculties:: Front servos were backwards... Fixed that did some more hopping around the front yard trying to put some tame on by making adjustments..
Then I finally had some tail rotor problems and found that I clipped the CF Tail blades. It was pretty ugly,, But I had a blast. It's definantly louder than the HDX300 that i've been hopping around the front yard.. It looks like I need to tame it down a bunch!!! I don't think that there is a Video on how tame I need it... I'm going to have to find someone with a little more experiance. I more of a visual type.. If anyone is in the Rockwall Texas Area that's familiar with the TREX600/ DX7/ gy401 setup, I need some help.. LOL,, I thought I was addicted with the 300 ,, the 600 smoked the Brain..

If you are new, and are worried about digging the tail in, you should get the MJP long CF tail fins. The stock plastic one is pretty flexible, and will go right into the tail rotor if it bends. Even the Align CF tail fin is pretty thin and not much longer.
The MJP one is nice and solid. Some people have even CA glued two Align CF fins together to make it stiffer.

That sounds like a good Idea..
After further inspection I noticed that there were some notches knocked out of the tail fin. Thinking back, I thought I noticed that the tail was bending as it was hopping around the yard,,
