Hi,I had an excellent few hours practice today.
It was a bit windy but i did well not crashing.
I was hovering great but all of a sudden it seemed to climb.I have taken advice on giving it a bit of forward elevator to compensate for head wind. This worked sometimes but some times it climbed.
My question is what is the best way to lower altitude because i found just lowering the collective seemed too slow.It seemed to stay at the same height then all of a sudden it lowered where i had to give it some throttle to stop it hitting the floor.
Is it best to combine forward elevator then lower collective.
When it is coming down, just before it lands do you just blip the throttle to slow it lowering to quick.
Your help would be appreciated.

We flew two new guys today in winds avg 10 MPH gusting to 15 and 20 at times.
fly nose in to the wind, when a gust causes it to rise, give forward, and a little less collective. As the gust subsides you have to anticipate and release forward, and increase collective. If you are just starting out learning to hover, fly with your shoulder and heli 90 degrees to the wind to 'feel' the wind and compensate as the wind gusts change.
If it's under 10 MPH fly with your back to the wind so you feel the gusts first, and also to keep oil vapor and exhaust out of your eyes.
