Can anyone show or suggest ideas for the training gear to use on the H550? I assume nitro 30 sized gear would be too heavy?

just use your standard "X" design with either dowl rods or carbon aarow shafts and use small wiffle balls on the ends or ping pong balls. just Zip tie them on.

Flight simulators "are the new" training gear. Hit the sim hard and skip the gear altogether.

I'm not sure where that "are the new" thing came from but it seems to be all the rage lately... :)

I have the RealFlight G3.5 and have used it for ~5 months, I still suggest training gear for the first few flights. Here's what i knocked up-->

consists of hula hoop and bamboo sticks (bought from nursery section in Bunnings, they are used to 'prop' up plants) I have also swapped the standard Hurricane landing gear with Trex600 :-) In RealFlight I can do most of the 3D manovers no probs, without the training gear on my real heli i would have crashed within seconds of first flight, If your heli was setup by a 'pro' and you have all the top gear things maybe different....better be safe than sorry IMO...

Hope this is of some help ;-)

hey guys... is the trex 600 landing gear a direct bolt on?

I used carbon rods and ping pong balls on my 450... but I decided to get the set at tower for the hurricane & 600n... it got here today... and it is pretty heavy (mainly the rods)... so I am going to find something lighter to replace them.

I like the hula hoop idea... also saw that also in an issue of rc heli mag... looks light and plenty wide.

Negative the holes on the Trex600 landing gear are ~1/2 hole out compared to Gaui gear...I simply taped the Gaui gear to the 600's and drilled the holes for mounting and body mount thing-a-ma-jig...very simple

Yeah it works VERY well I had a Walkera 60 veeeery briefly (about 4 days and gave it to my brother) I used carbon rods and ping pong balls on that...IMO the hula hoop is superior, the rods don't spread and yes it is extremely light also and flexes, I suggest NOT using dowels in place of the bamboo either I bought some with the idea of using them but it doesn't flex anywhere near as much and is heavier (the bamboo is hollow)

I just came in from my 4th 'flight' (hover session nose in) I think next flight the gear will be removed...

30 size nitro training gear will be just fine. (even my little Trex 450 could easily lift the big 30 size training gear without a problem, it just looked a little strange :).

Century makes a .30-.50 training gear set with fiberglass rods.It is not too heavy for the hurricane.Unfortunately it is not bullet -proof either.Towers carries them.

go witrh a rotopod It can be used in two configurations either flat to ground or elevated to six inches or so above ground
You can also fix the mount so no cyclic movement when pod is on ground or have it able to move while the balls are still in contact with ground so you can practice all orientations while still having contact with ground ( makes for great learning nose in while rolling around on firm ground)
Yes it is expensive but saved my heli countless times from destruction
just my 2 cents
