The EP10 is great!!!
I am fairly new to helicopters, new to flying anything like this. After a few conversations on the phone with Irwin I was at his store building the EP10 right in his store. Having never built a helicopter I needed some guidance, and all the parts were right there in his store.
After the EP10 was built Irwin did the first test flight and the helicopter flew without any problems. We also tested the Helicommand. John at Quick spent some time figuring out the setup, and the gyro that is part of the unit worked quite well, and the stabilization was pretty cool.
I am still learning a lot about the setup of the helicopter and Irwin had given me a low pinion gear and soft start on the ESC, but soon I hope to have a more aggressive setup to start trying some basic 3D. I have been able to fly often and I upgraded my radio to 2.4 9303, and have put on the 6100t. I have progressed away from the helicommand and the training stand, but I am sure they saved me some money in crash parts. It did take a large amount of humility to use the huge training stand at the airfield, but you would have to try pretty hard to crash using that thing.
My flights have been enjoyable. I do not have to worry about anything while flying. The helicopter is extremely stable and strong. I have the hover down pretty well and I am trying to get fast forward flight down, but it takes courage.
I notice from looking at some other helicopters that the EP10 is already “upgraded” with all metal parts, and the price is still very competitive if not better than most standard kits that were around when I was looking. Everyone told me that a larger helicopter would be more stable and they were right. The EP10 is not twitchy at all. It feels just as stable as the AXE EZ my wife and I first started flying around our living room. My first real purchase of Helistuff was an AXE CP. The helicopter cost just as much as the EP10 when you get all the upgrades and parts (after parts after parts….). Any little bump and you’d have to replace the blade grips. That helicopter is definitely more of a toy. I do not think that helicopter is for beginners at all, and it is very advanced on the pocket book. It is fun to fly in a large indoor space, but outside, the slightest breeze and that sucker is going down. The EP10 has been a breath of fresh air, and I have come home many times without incident.
The other great thing about the EP10 is that when you want to upgrade or change things up, there is an excellent chance that the same head will fit Quick’s other helicopters.
Also, the batteries are much more affordable. I have two 4-cell lipos and the batteries cost half what other electric helis about the same size cost.
I am happy with the EP10. Also, the service I have received from the Quick shop has been attentive and we have never had a problem we could not work out.
