View Full Version : Blade experiences?

I know that a few people have posted blade recommendations but I would like to revisit and see if anyone has power consumption and 'flight experience' data to share with their 550s.

My 10S hurri is 'heavy-ish' at 2500 grams and is running 500mm CF RCPs. It performs very well, as you'd expect, but does not have the 'pop' that I get from my Trex 450s. I have to qualify this by stating that I have three 450s. Ignore the 3S rig.. but compared to my 4S and 5S Trex 450s the hurri feels 'heavy'.

It is very powerful but slower to respond. Some of this is probably cyclic response so I will swap out the standard flybar for a rappie 30 unit that I have waiting here. BUT I'm also wondering about changing the main blades.

I'm reluctant to go all the way to the RCP 550s... does anyone have any good data about 515 - 530 sized CF blades.? I'd really like to look at some blades in this size range that are similar weight or lighter than the RCP 500s. I figure that a small drop in HS with a lower disk loading might counter the extra weight.

I don't want anything too radical... still mastering a number of 3D aspects so hover and FFF stability is still important. I can loop, roll, flip, stall turn, (sometimes) funnel and hover inverted nose in.. with the odd bad tic toc thrown in.

Any wisdom on CF mains - any comments on tail and flybar paddles also welcomed.

Curious as to the size difference between the stock GAUI flybar and the raptor...Im guessing the Raptor is longer? if not people would simply cut down the original wouldnt they?

Yes Rappie 30 flybar is about 52mm longer ('about' I just measured both in their packagng so not entirely precise).

As a side not. you could not cut down a flybar unless you had the necessary die to recut the thread used to attach the paddles.

In general, longer flybar and / or lighter paddles will increase cyclic response. Paddle size also plays a part but generally flybar length and paddle weight are what people 'tweak'.

Generally speaking,
shorter blade lighter, higher headspeed and faster cyclic.

Longer flybar, more stable, less responsive . I do not think longer or shorter is better, as I believe an "optimal length" exist .

For 3D, I got 72g carbon 515mm, perfect, HS 2100. I am using longer (420mm) Trex 600 flybar, but I will change back the stock one soon.

I have not tried the stock 500mm carbon yet. The profile is not appealing and is not cheap.

tungym, thanks.
What setup do you run?

I can imagine a 420mm flybar might be a bit too much. The Raptor 30 one is 392mm or so an that is supposed to make a big difference compared with the stock 340mm unit.

What brand are the 515 CF blades that you use?

I disagree, longer flybar is MORE stable and MORE responsive.

More stable due to the larger gyroscopic effect of moving the wieght of the paddles further out.

More responsive due to the longer lever arm for the paddlesl to work with.
