Hi all,
just gave my T-Rex 450 a try, how it would fly with the Askman APLG under it. As I did not want to take away the normal landing gear I connected them together. And also I added the training gear underneath it.
So, OK, looks real funny, normal LG, Askman APLG and training gear.
But I am actually wondering, it is really swinging around, where it was VERY stable before. Is this normal ?

When you add that extra weigh, the farther down from the blades, it will add a pendulum effect.
You will need to fly even steadier then usually, and make gentle inputs. So try adding expo to make you adjustments easier. Also, make sure you re-trim the helicopter for the AP rig. If you are fighting the CG, and then returning to center stick, and its off, you will be adding the swing.
Removing the gear will help, but fly mine with the gears too, so I can switch between AP and sport flying with the same heli. It can work. Just make small controlled inputs, and practice forward flight with the heli so you get comfortable towing the weight. it will help your hover. Also when you go into hover, allow a little bit of drift. It will hold better. I hover, and let it drift within about 5-10 feet before reseting it. It will avoid lots of quick corrections. Also if it is in a slow drift and starts to get away quick, you need to adjust your trim more.
good luck.

I added 4 grams (two brass collets) to each flybar and ran 335 Prowoods. It is soooo stable now - with a standard u/c and a 250g camera on the nose.

@ trireme,
Thanks, that's a very nice responce, very helpful. Will give it a try.
@ Pete
I have some extra weights already on the flybar. Run 325 Pro woods though. But I presume it is more what trireme said, I have actually added weigth too far down from the blades. If You have nose-mounting, this is probably better in this respect.
Do You have a picture of your setup ?
I guess I will be taking the original LG away then, so at least the effect is not soo extreme.
I would very much like some ideas of a quick-mount for the Askman APLG, as the heli with the APLG does not fit my carrying suitcase. (and I hate braking it because of carrying is around without protection) Any ideas ?
