Iv'e seen a lot of guys do this conversion, but when I did it I crashed my Heli 3 times!
JR position is DON"T DO IT. They seem to think I overvolted the radio, and fried something.
Then, I see an article in MA, on how to do it!
Can anybody give me the straight scoop on this?

I have personally watched on of my flying buddies in san diego use a 3s lipo in his 9303 (72mhz) for over a year without issue.

Ask JR if it is ok to run an 8-cell alkaline pack. If they say "yes" then it is baloney that a 3s lipo will be too high a voltage. Alkaline batteries are nominal 1.5V but fresh ones are 1.58V so 8 x 1.58 = 12.64V. A 3s lipo fresh off the charger is 12.4V.
This, btw, is the reason the DX7 (aka JR7202) battery bar indicator never reaches 100% for folks using NiCd/NiMH batteries. The indicator is scaled to allow for an alkaline battery pack so since the NiXx never charge above 11.somethingV they never show 100%.
Now it is conceivable that charging the lipo in the Tx might cause a problem, especially if you do it above 1A which is normally all the charge port is rated to deliver.
You will get many anecdotes about folks that have had success running 3s lipo Tx packs in a variety of Tx, including JR9303, but that doesn't mean it is guaranteed to work and I doubt JR will approve of it.

Mangled heli parts don't lie, so I will go with answer B, and hope JR does not catch what I did
There is a guy around here that has had a similar problem. 3 lockouts running the lipo pack with the module on 2.4ghz. I've always figured any correlation was a bit of a stretch as I've seen bunches of guys running 3s without issues.
For me the 2700 nimhs give more capacity, charge quicker, and can use the stock charger if I feel like it... so haven't bothered with lipo.
