Just set up my DS760 on my 600 last night, sans plate. If it gives me any issues i'll just install it. I'll be able to do a test flight today and i'm starting with 65 on the gear channel on a DX7. I definately would like to play with the deadband a little as I do have a tendancy to get slight pitch, rudder, finger interactions;)

I may have to play with the deadband also. I've got that same irritating interaction.

im just wondering how sensitive the dead band is... would going from 5 to 10 be a noticable difference or would going from 5 to like 15 be better. Does any one know? I would try it myself but due to weather, I havent had a chance to and it doesn't look like I will for atleast another day or two.

Well, since can be configured from 5% - 100%, I'd say 15% could make a significant difference... unless your stick jitter is excessive. I will personally try 15% tonight and edit this post with my result.
Edit: 15% makes a subtle difference, and 25% makes a more distinct deadband gap, and feels like a delay. 15-25% may be what you want. Try different settings.
OK, had a chance to hover it tonite before it got dark infront of the house and get the gain set. No real flying but even in a hover the tail felt rock solid and more instant on the rudder compared to the 401 if that makes sense. I was running a gain of 65 on endpoints with the 401 and dropped it all the way down to 38 on the Spartan.
Edit: Oops, at my dad's house and responded from his account. This is Big Fil

The book says to start with a gain of 30, and to translate that to JR-land, you divide by 1.4 (according to Finless) and add 50, resulting in 71.
John
Thank you John I will try this. Maybe I should start a new topic but since you have the X9303 might as well ask here. I have not yet flown with it. It looks like throttle hold does not go very low, am I wrong?

Honestly, since I haven't ever done nitro, i just have used the default -5 setting for throttle hold. You might be better off with a new topic ;)

Hey guys, I've been getting quite a few PM's lately asking me questions about how to setup this gyro for the T-Rex 500 and 600. Here are my personal recommendations (I will post them on my web site at http://www.bertrc.com/ soon):
For all helis:
If you don't have the USB interface:
1. Plug both of your gyro leads to the receiver (don't plug the servo at this time).
2. Bind your transmitter and receiver (2.4 Ghz). If you are using Spektrum, make sure you hold left rudder while binding and that your collective/throttle stick is all the way down.
3. Power on your transmitter and then power on your receiver while holding left rudder on your transmitter and toggling the heading hold switch to access the servo menu on the gyro. Select the type of servo you are going to run as per the instructions that came with the gyro.
4. Now that you have the correct servo configuration, you can plug your servo in and then restart transmitter. You can now turn on the receiver while toggling the transmitter's heading hold switch to access the configuration menu on the gyro. Follow the instructions that came with the gyro to select your direction and limits.
If you have the USB interface:
1. Plug both of your gyro leads to the receiver (don't plug the servo at this time).
2. Bind your transmitter and receiver (2.4 Ghz). If you are using Spektrum, make sure you hold left rudder while binding and that your collective/throttle stick is all the way down.
3. Download and install the following software:
- If you have the Spartan USB cable with the blue plug, download the drivers:
For XP: http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/flashlink/Flash-Link_blue_plug_v20019v2021.zip
For Vista: http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/flashlink/Flash-Link_blue_plug_32bit_64bit_Vista_v3200.zip
- If you have the Spartan USB cable with the black plug, your drivers are already built into Windows.
- Firmware loader: http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/ds760/SpartanRC_ds760_firmware_loader.zip
- Configuration Editor: http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/ds760/ds760_configuration_editor.zip
4. Power on your receiver (no need to power on transmitter at this time). Plug your gyro to the computer and run the Firmware loader utility to upload the firmware. When done, unplug the gyro from your computer and turn off the receiver.
5. Repeat #3 above, but this time run the Configuration Editor. Make sure your gyro is being detected and click on "Load from file" (select the file that corresponds to your heli from the files below). Then click on "Store to Gyro".
6. Power on transmitter and receiver and double check to make sure the gyro works correctly, including servo direction, limits, etc.
Configuration files:
IMPORTANT: Right click, then "save target as". When you open this file with the configurator editor, you'll need to select the type of servo you have. Everything else should be fine for your particular model.

T-Rex 600 (http://www.bertrc.com/spartan_config/T-Rex600_Nitro_Spartan.ssf)
Heli specific notes:
T-Rex 450:
If you use a DX-7 Transmitter and your gyro sensitivity is configured to use the gear channel via end points (ATV's), you should set this at 45; this is a good starting point. Also, your ATV for the rudder (pirouette speed) can be set at 110 to start. I have mine set at 130. I noticed a little bit of tail bounce during hard stops; I corrected this by reducing the stop gain to 80 from 100 (already configured in the 450 file above).
T-Rex 500:
If you use a DX-7 Transmitter and your gyro sensitivity is configured to use the gear channel via end points (ATV's), you should set this at 40; this is a good starting point. Also, your ATV for the rudder (pirouette speed) can be set at 110 to start. I have mine set at 125. This heli's tail feels perfect with stock settings.
As far as gyro mounting is concerned, I recommend using the metal plate with this heli, especially if you are using a JR 3400G servo for the tail; otherwise you might have a little tail wag that's impossible to eliminate with your settings; the plate takes care of this.
T-Rex 600:
If you use a DX-7 Transmitter and your gyro sensitivity is configured to use the gear channel via end points (ATV's), you should set this at 40; this is a good starting point. Also, your ATV for the rudder (pirouette speed) can be set at 110 to start. I have mine set at 135. This heli's tail feels perfect with stock settings. However, if you do hard tail reversals you might want to adjust your acceleration/deceleration settings to avoid stripping tail gears. I have already configured this on the 600 file above, so if you use the configuration editor with the file provided above you should be good to go!
Other notes:
These settings and configuration files work well for me. However, depending on your flying style you might want to play with dead band and other settings. This gyro is the most technologically advanced gyro I have ever flown; the possibilities for configuration are endless! Also, if you are using a transmitter other than DX-7, my gain settings and rudder ATV's above might not be suitable. Always start with a middle number and adjust up and down accordingly. You want to have the most holding power without a tail wag, so you can always go up high with your gain and start dropping it a couple of points at a time until you get to the right number.
I'll be posting observations as well as a file for the T-Rex 700 before it is released.

Great write up Bert!
Anyway the admins can move this particular post to the very start of this thread. Otherwise sticky it somewhere so new people can find this without having to search through 34 pages worth of info.

Have made a new sticky in T600 forum for tech matters and will put a link in setup 101

I just switched from the Futaba 9650 servo to a 9257 servo on my Trex450 and Spartan, and what a complete and total positive difference it made. I am VERY pleased. I feel like I unlocked the spartan to function the way it was supposed to.
I'd like to thank Angelos for listening to my questions, and suggesting the 9257 servo. My heli is rock'n!
And now I will do the dance. :banana
Edit: I've also installed the Chinese tail weights mod, reducing the need for a higher torque servo.

Yep... 9257 rocks with this gyro for sure! 9650 is just a tad too slow now a days...
I always have said the faster a servo for the tail the better but please make sure it is also not too weak...

Just looked in my manual for the DS760. It says: "Remember to register your product online to qualify for 3 years free service. You must do so via the Spartan RC website within 30 days of the original purchase and retain the original dated sales receipt".
Looked at the Spartan website, but I couldn't find any place to register. Anyone know? Angelos?
Thanks

Tha manual had to be printed but we didn't have the chance to get the registration page ready. It should be available in the next couple of weeks but for now you can just send us a message with your name and purchase date and we will notify you when the page is ready to complete the registration. http://www.spartan-rc.com/support/ttx.cgi

SpartanRC, You have an eMail.
Does the DS760s on the market right now have the latest and greatest 1.02 version? Is there any need to update the gyros if they have the newest version? Maybe there is something else which is useful to update?
Thanks,

I would like to purchase one of these gyros but when I contacted one of the six listed suppliers in the states they only received 4 gyros early this month..….
I don’t see how anyone in the US got one of these with this few of gyros delivered, looks like you have about as much of a change get struck by lightning.
Any idea if on the next round if there will be a greater quantity?

I signed up for readyheli's "email me when in stock". I got an email Friday morning the 1st of February saying they were in stock. It was delivered the following Monday. Great service as usual.

Ha! Reminds me of the Trex500... everyone wants one but supply can only roll out so fast.... I feel sorry for Angelos as he came out with a HOT product but might not have had a grasp on demand! When you got a product this good everyone wants one! I know Angelos will ramp it up and is doing his best.... I bet you in the next month it wont be a problem.
My .000002 cents on the situation and it's great to see Angelos have a product that is in that much demand! In the end it is WORTH waiting for trust me :) I wouldn't BS you all.......

Only one shop ordered 4 even though I told them that they won't last 4 minutes :D One of our dealers sold 50 within a couple of hours and another one had already pre-orders for a similar amount. Still a few dozen gyros are heading to Esprit Model and Heli Direct so you may be able to pre-order one if you are quick.

Thanks for the info guys, I will check out those 2 places. And I did ask that shop if they just ordered “4” and I was told no.
So you know I did search and did not see anyone ask about availability. I really did not like asking about it on finless thread but I knew I would get a response. :)
Thanks again!

We've ordered quite a few from the next batch. Things will get better. Like Bob said, it's the hot item so it's going to take a bit to catch up.
