yeah i have this gyro for my 600sport. i am going to use the futaba bls 251.what is a good starting point to set the gain? i think in the setup video it says 70 and 30. i haven't flown it yet.was going to try this weekend but realised my pitch gauge for my 450 wouldn't fit on the 600!!! aaaaaagggghhhhh. found out too late on saturday and my lhs was closed.have to pick one up tomorrow so i can set up and check the pitch range.my plastic canopy looks so plain.........

Start with about 32% TRUE gain... I say true because the number will depend on radio and if your using enmd points or the gyro menu.
Futaba set to GY mode in thje gyro menu and 32
JR / DX set to use travel adjust and set to 32 on each side of the gear swirch
JR/DX Gyro menu set to 74 for all flight modes.

thanks bob,i forgot to say i was using the jr 2720 synthesised handset, and have the gyro on the gear switch.in my menu there is a positive and negative setting.i take it i will set them both to 32 although one will be negative.i assume positive for hh and the negative for rate mode?

Got mine this past Saturday. Very impressive. The Logictech 2100 doesn't hold a candle to it.

Just bind it...all the settings are stored in the gyro.

Binding with the rudder stick left or center??

I think the new firmware on the 760 allow you to either bind with the rudder all the way to the left or the gyro gain set very low. I think either will allow the rx to initialize before the gyro.

Can anyone help.
What is the recommended length from servo center to ball for a trex 450 for ds 760
Also would a length that is too small give bounce back on piros??
Mine is about 9mm , ( same setting as I used on my 401 ) and I cannot tweak out the bounce back.
I do not have the usb lead.
Bob, or anyone with advice?
Cheers
I have mine on the inner most hole and no problems here to speak of. I guess that's around 9mm... not sure

I have a question on the servo arm lenth. first tho i love this gyro it flys great.
my set is with a 6100g servo from my logitech gyro, servo arm lenth is at 13 mms and my atvs are at 140 both ways. the turning speed is kinda slow going into banking turns, the tail speed came up after i turned up the atvs to the 140 so my question is if i put the linkage ball out to 15mm will the tail speed go up. hope this made sence .

That wont make a difference on tail speed (piro rate) but will effect general servo speed vs resolution. Sure the servo will now be able to move the slider faster as it doesn't have to move as far but you traded that off for resolution. Go too far out and you wont have good resolution and possibly get wag and other issues. Go too far in and you have more resolution but the servo has to move farther thus in general it is slower to react. again though this will not effect piro rate in general. Every heli geometry is a little different so you may have to play with ball distance to find the proper feel and speed vs resolution.

If your running your Rudd ATV's at 140% I would expect a piro rate in excess of 760 deg a second!
It sounds to me when you set up your Gyro you didnt use the rudder stick to establish full available travel each direction available on your tail pitch slider. (during Flicky Flicky sequence)
The Gyro remembers these positions as the maximium available throw so as not to bind out the linkage irrespective of the % you use in the Tx..That would explain your slow piro rate at such a high ATV %
hope that helps you out..Brian

I have a [recently build completed] 500, 9303, DS3400G and ds760. I have watched all of Finless' videos on Spartan gyro setup as well as read every single post on this thread. Unfortunately, my pea brain is left with nothing but confusion. I think I have the answers from a few posts, but then more posts mandate a completely different setup procedure. I honestly cannot figure out how to proceed to step 1 !
Can anybody using a 9303 help me? I can't even figure out how to plug the gyro into the reciever. In one post it's definitely "gear". In other post it's definitely "AUX2". In another post, it's back to "gear". Same with setting tail to 8 degrees. One day it's "yes", another day it's "no".
I can't even begin to think about firmware versions without my head hurting. I bought the gyro about a week ago if that helps.

Okay, after doing more reading and watching Finless' setup video one more time [after reading this thread], I attempted the following steps:
1. Turn transmitter on.
2. Press "list" button.
3. Select to "GYRO SENS" option.
4. Highlight function type, set to "AUTO".
5. Set Pos.0 to 0%.
6. Set Pos.1 to 100%.
7. Set NORM:Pos. to 0.
8. Set ST-1:Pos. to 1.
9. Set ST-2:Pos. to 1.
And, use the switch that goes from normal flight mode to "Idle 1" and "Idle 2" to get the gyro to enter programming mode, right?
And, plug the gyro into AUX2, right?

Okay, I eventually managed to get the servo type programmed into the gyro. I had a bit of difficulty because the video was a bit ambiguous, at least for my pea brain. When following the instructions to "hold the rudder stick to the left and power on", a clear indication wasn't given as to what to power on. I kept powering on the transmitter (duh). After watching the video segment again [closely], and seeing that the transmitter power switch was not being touched, I extrapolated that it must be the reciever that was being powered on. That did the trick. Hopefully, these steps that I tried are correct so far:
1. Turn transmitter on.
2. Press "list" button.
3. Select to "GYRO SENS" option.
4. Highlight function type, set to "AUTO".
5. Set Pos.0 to 0%.
6. Set Pos.1 to 100%.
7. Set NORM pos. to 0.
8. Set ST-1 pos. to 1.
9. Set ST-2 pos. to 1.
10. Power down reciever if powered up.
11. Plug black gyro plug into "Rudder" on the reciever.
12. Plug red gyro plug into "AUX2" on the reciever.
13. Power up transmitter if not powered up.
14. Hold rudder stick all the way to the left.
15. Turn reciever on.
16. Immediately start toggling flight mode switch until gyro light starts flashing.
17. Let go of the rudder stick.
18. Stop toggling flight mode switch, leave in normal position.
19. Set the gyro frame rate according to the instructions/build video.
20. Switch the flight mode switch to POS2 (Idle up 2).
21. Switch the flight mode switch back to normal mode.
22. Verify that the gyro light is solid on.

Following the rest of Finless' build video, I was able to get the gyro set up perfectly.
The only issues I had were:
1. If I set the gains in the gyro sens menu to 34%, I couldn't get the gyro to get into programming mode. Each time, I had to put the gains back to 0 and 100%.
2. I had to remember to make sure the the flight mode switch ended up in normal mode (NOT either of the two idle-up modes) after switching it to enter programming mode, or I couldn't save any of my settings.
Now let's see if I can figure out how to set up this ESC thingy and get flying!

Okay, setting up the ESC was easy following Bob's video - thanks Bob! :-D
I put the motor back in, set the backlash, put the battery in, took it outside, slowly spooled the heli up, and.... trouble ensued. Each time the heli started substantially spooling up, it would try to slowly pyro in one direction (the same direction each time). When I tried to add some rudder stick to compensate, it would immediately start violently pryo-ing in the other direction, and I was unable to stop it. This happened two or three times. Thank goodness it didn't topple over. Needless to say, I'm not going any further until I can get some ideas from the gurus here on what to check.
Thanks!
:-)
P.S. Everything works perfectly on the bench. My 9303 is set to:
GYGO SENS - AUTO
Pos. 0 34%
Pos. 1 34%
Pos. 2 34%
NORM: Pos 0
ST-1: Pos 1
ST-2: Pos 1

OK if your using gyro sens menu on a 9303 then 34 is not putting you in heading lock and you will drift.
It's better to NOT use the gyro sense menu. I use to but decided travel adjust is better because the number more matches real gain. so when using travel adjust 34 = about 34% gain. However when using the gyro sense menu it does not work that way. a number above 50 is heading hold and a number below 50 is rate mode and there is a bit of a calculation.
HH gains you do this
(X-50) X 1.44 = real gain.
So if gyro sense is set to 74 then
(74-50) X 1.44 = 34.5 gain.
Hope that makes sense.

Hi finless,
what do you mean by the travel adjust to set the gain? Is there another way of setting the gain for the X9303 tx?
I though the travel adjust on the tx (end points) will vary the piro rate? Just like the D/Rs.
Finless

Yes you can use travel adjust on GEAR channel. On the power on model menu go to the function and make sure GEAR is not set to INH or GOV.
Plug the gain from the gyro into gear channel on RX. Now use travel adjust to set the gain. 100 left is 100% gain Heading hold. Flip the gear switch and now you can adjust right side. Gear switch up is HH mode and down is rate. so now if you want say 32% in HH and 32% is rate, just set the gear travel adjust to 32% on both side. I always leave the gear switch UP as I dont use rate mode.
BTW to program the Spartan yopu have to start with gear as a switch anyway so you can toggle programming steps!
Also for those that still want to use the gyro menu ont he X9303, that ONLY works on AUX2 period!

Hi, thank for clearing up.
Hmm, does it mean we cannot toggle rate and hh with aux2?

Okay I tried the following steps:
1. Hold ENT key down on the transmitter.
2. Power on the transmitter.
3. Verify that GEAR is set to GEAR SW.
4. Press ENT key.
5. Press LIST key.
6. Select TRVL ADJ.
7. Verify that gear switch is in up position.
8. Select GEAR choice.
9. Change value from 100% to 34%.
10. Flip gear switch to down position.
11. Change value from 100% to 34%.
12. Power down transmitter.
13. Remove gain plug from AUX2 on reciever, plug into GEAR.
14. Take it outside, fire it up, hovers beautifully!
Bob you are the BEST!!! :noteworthy:noteworthy:noteworthy
