Hi,
I have a problem with my Futaba T12Z and Spartan gyro on my Trex 600N

when I put the gain at 0 or 100% in the menu Gyro, this does not change the behaviour of the hélicopter.
Is this normal?

How can we set the gain on the gyro with the radio?

This is in the ATV way 5 or in the menu Gyro?

My endpoint in the gyro is 125/125, I put my tail at center mechanical.

thank you for your help!

Jérome

(sorry for my english )

Hi,

Recently got my DS760 for my 600NSP :D

Very happy so far but I have a bounce on clockwise pyro. I'm using a 8900G servo with 14mm arm, the gain is %35 and the endpoints are 81/103; set the ~8 degrees on center but to be sure I adjusted the link to avoid any drift in rate mode.

What I need to change to eliminate the bounce ?

1.- Lower deceleration profile ?
2.- Lower clockwise gain ?
3.- Both ?

TIA

lower deceleration to about 60% and turn up the stop gain to about 120 and try again.

cheers

Yes, you should set it in your TX via the Gyro menu. I just had a look at the 12z manual and it appears similar to my 9c in function. Start your setup around 30% AVCS gain and test fly/adjust from there.
The gyro still needs to see a gain signal from the tx to operate correctly. The gain setting in the gyro configuration software are for tuning performance to your heli.

Also, your English was fine. Much better than my French.;)

Hi Markwebber!

thank you for your answer ;) (I'm the one who has ordered your last Gyro last week) :)

when I put 0%, 30% or 100% in the menu gyro, nothing happens. Yet the software Spartan gives me good values 0, 30% and 100%. when I'm in flight, I go from 0% to 100% gain on the Transmitter, the tail no wag.
I no longer understand ....

What heli is this in and what servo are you using?

For now, leave the stop gains at 100% until you get the tx gain working to your liking. Is the LED solid in AVCS and off in rate mode?

I use BLS251 with Trex 600N

Would the spartan be over kill on a 450 sized heli?

The smaller helis need the better gyros :)

I got the spartan 760 too, but found some problem
When i have an anti-clockwise turn and stop rapidly, it could hold the tail
however, when i have clockwise turn, it couldn't stop at the position that i want, it turn back to anti-clockwise for around 20 degree and stop........

For that one side bounceback, you can adjust the stop gain for that direction.

CCW is perfect. The tail stops right where you put it with nice crisp stops. CW however, comes back a few inches. I called it a mushy stop.
I've adjusted CW stop gain all the way up to 200 with no change. I've come down in the decel profile 6 clicks off fast and no change. Several combinations of both also.

Glad to see (I guess) it's not just me.

I have just finished setting up a 760 and it is doing the same , ( bouncing back in same direction as stated above ), I will try adjusting the stop gain on one side next time out; Other direction is perfect.
Funny though; this is the 3rd spartan I have running and none of the others have done this, I suppose it is down to each individual heli and set-up.

Could it be the set-up was not quite at 8 degrees on the tail??

I'd say the 8 degrees for rate mode has nothing to do with it. I think Angelos stated earlier in this thread that the 8* isn't required anyway.

So we have 4 people with the same problem of bounce back from CW piro. Hopefully someone from Spartan will come up with a fix.

It's interesting that you've set up a few others and this is the first one you've had problems with.
Possibly a problem with a certain manufactured batch?

The gyros don't create bounce; the mechanical delays of different helicopter components cause it as described in the FAQ topic 10 http://www.spartan-rc.com/support.php?faq=9 When you tune the stops on a gyro in a simplified way all you do it telling to compensate for the delayed tail response. In addition to lowering the deceleration slider and adjusting the stop gains you can also:

* Increase the head speed; which will in turn increase the available thrust of the tail and make it able to stop faster.

* If you have weights fitted at the back of the tail to balance the CoG, take them out. Excess mass on the tail will reduce it's ability to respond fast.

* Try slightly larger tail blades or blades of higher efficiency.

* Do not fit oversize battery packs on electric models. The additional mass will make the stops slower.

* Most importantly make sure the gyro runs at optimal gain. Don't follow guidance from other people regarding the gain value. Not two helicopters are the same. Set the gain as high as you can go without any wag is seen in any manoeuvre. Most importantly make sure the tail stays still while pitch pumping.

People fail to understand that the mechanical components of the tail are an integral part of the gyro's feedback path.

HERE HERE..... HFG.... Most problems I help someone with locally (meaning I can see the heli) are almost ALWAYS a mechanical setup issue or both. Both meaning because they got the tail mechanically wrong the electronics setup of the gyro and radio is also wrong... It's a 1 to 1 relationship!

USUALLY the people I see having problems tweaked the radio rudder travel so OUT OF WACK because on the bench the servo did not move as expected in relation to rudder stick movement! This seems to be a COMMON..... "I think this is wrong so I am going to change it" syndrome.

Honestly I gotta do a video on this seriously! This is FACT we see every day on the forums....

Almost everyone I have helped locally that had a BOUNCE BACK problem had the setup WRONG.....

Again I need to do something with this as this is NOT just a Spartan complaint... Go check out the MANY people that claim this on the JR770!!!! I am testing a 770 now and I don't have the issue... It's gotta be a mech AND in turn a setup issue....

BTW I am not saying this as 100% but the guys that had a bounce back issue on the Spartan ALL had their freakin tail blades on BACKWARDS....

Hey guys, I am by no means blaming the gyro, heck I have them on 2 other helis, ( plus 1 spare wiating for the next build )! and they are great, I have tuned them to ( what is for me ) perfection!
I was merely trying to assertain the best adjustment for getting rid of bounce back on 1 side.

Thanks for the advice angelos! Will get it dailed in I am sure!
Cheers

Well I apologize if someone thought I was outright blaming the gyro itself. That was not my intention. I must have something wrong because it's (the heli) having this problem, and I was only looking for help.

I did not have this problem with the GY770 that I took off of it. The stops with it were equally crisp in both directions. Headspeed, tail blades, battery, etc., are all the same. And yes my tail blades are on correctly.
Again, I was only looking for help.

I know some "people" will never get it... maybe I'm one of them. I'll bow out of this conversation and sit back and read as I used to do. Maybe I'll learn something.
It's crashed at the moment so any further changes will have to wait anyway.

JC do you have the programming cable? If so try tweaking piro stop and start gains..

Firmware update 1v08 now available. Details on our support page FAQ topics 28 and 29 http://www.spartan-rc.com/support.php?faq=27,28

EDIT: I forgot to say... if you have a Spektrum receiver/gyro combination that was sensitive to entering configuration mode due to the power on glitch please let me know if the fix worked.

Thanks for the update notice Angelos!

Just upgraded both of my DS760's to v1.08.
