I found a little time to install the radio and VBar unit. I am going to the field today to fly, but will take the 600 along and laptop. There is a guy that has few older logos, who may know a little about it. Maybe he has the grip I need too. Once the head is together I'll be able to check linkage alignment.
BTW, the counterbearing assembly was no problem. I had to buy some 4mm x 35 bolts and shorten the motor shaft to about 30mm. The counterbearing mounting holes drill easy, from 3mm to 4mm.
How much further does it restrict the battery space? That is, it seems tight with a 6S and just the bare pinion under there, but perhaps the 8S and 10S are thinner?

John (th3tick) has helped me solve my motor woes. I'll be purchasing a NEU 1912/1Y/H from him that's NIB!!! It's a bit steep on the kv but should be ok and make lots of thumb numbing power on a 13 tooth pinion. He had one sitting for a spring project but has decided to help me out and get me in the air next week. I also promised to keep an eye out for a replacement so he can do his spring Logo 6003D project.
I just wanted publicly thank him for his help.

So, what motor are you planning on running?
John
EDIT: Ah yes, you said an Actro 24-3 was your current consideration. Sorry.

John,
I tried to fit a FP 4900 6S at 63mm, a FP5000 6S 55mm, and a FP 5350 6S at 61mm. None of these 6S packs will clear the counterbearing even though the measure clearance is 56mm. Taking pack irregularities into consideration, it looks like only the FP 5S/10S long packs will clear. I measure a FP 4900 5S to be 53mm.

It sounds like the 3700s or 4350s might be a better option, then. Either that, or I need to use a lot less Velcro!
I'm definitely curious as to what 8S and 10S packs folks end up using.
Thanks!

I am starting with a 4350 10S and a 5350 10S.
The battery measurements did include velcro. It looks like you could trim the front lip of the frame for a little more battery manuvering room.
On the other hand, a hard inverted crash could be very ugly! I can see a pinion drilling a hole through the top cell or two. Bring the fire extiguisher to the field.

Another thought on the counter bearing. I had to set the pinion height without the conter bearing housing, tool clearance being the issue.
A friend suggested drilling a hole in the counterbearing housing so you can insert a hex to get to the pinion.

When thinking about batteries be aware that if you have two separate 5S packs you won't be able to balance them at the same time in a TP210 balancer unless you rewire the taps to make a shared tap wire between pin 6 of Grp A and pin 1 of Grp B - not difficult to do but a stick makes it easier - otherwise use two separate balancers (should be liked by data cable if charged in series - doesn't matter if charged separately)

I suppose that OICU812 will have to use a 5150 however...
And in case you got that one, I'd like to apologize in advance...

Acutually you don't need to. Read post #109 of this thread. :)

That's a very neat trick Jeremy - cudos to Bullaculla :noteworthy for working that one out and thanks to you for pointing me to it  - OK I'll rephrase my post to:
You have to be careful how you connect up twin separate 5S packs to a TP210 in order to monitor all the cells :)
PS: It doesn't work for x2 4S packs in series :(

I now have the VBar moving the servos in the right directions. It is weird watching the swash plate respond to the different parameters avaiable.
I guess I'll focus on wiring and setting up the power system next.

I warned you it was lame. Van Halen did an album titled OICU812, and also one titled 5150. It sure seemed funny at the time...

I machined 2.5mm off the motor mount side of the counterbearing housing and.5mm off the bottom. This now gives 59mm clearance. A FP 5000 25C 6S/12S will now clear. The clearance between the pinion and the counter bearing is 1mm.
Perhaps this is better news for 500 owners who run 6S
Also made a swash plate leveler.

Really no need for the counterbearing at all on 6S, not enough watts pumping through the system to generate wear on the gear. 12S or fatter packs for 10S and up applications though, absolutely might be a good thing.
