I'd say if you've only had two 'flights' in 8 months with your girlfriend might be worth thinking 'bout spending a bit less time with the heli

The crucial part of the equation is that when your heli leaves she leaves a pile of bits on the ground and nice memories - when your girl leaves she can take upwards of half your assets :bawl

Hey guys, Sorry I haven't been posting much..... waiting on motor to come in and been working my ass off.

I do have good news though. I went to my friends air brushing shop in Van Texas www.rattlesnakekustoms.com (http://www.rattlesnakekustoms.com) :noteworthy and picked up my canopy. I really think it looks cool!! The guy can do ANYTHING!!! I like my canopies kind of dark with hints of brightness here and there. The pics of it don't do it justice. I will post pics of it soon in the sunlight so you can see the green pop and the sparkle shine.

We put a piece of automotive vacuum tubing around the edge of the canopy to help keep the paint from cracking. This canopy is a little to thin. I understand all about saving weight but feel this isn't a good place to do that. I'd rather not sacrifice quality over a little extra weight.

Just my .02

EDIT*** I put new pics of the canopy up in this thread. http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=50657

Couldn't agree more - I have already had a small tear on the underside where it tucks over the front gear - beautiful canopy - you must be getting excited to see it in the air !! - I'm REALLY enjoying flying mine despite PIA pinion woes.

Awesome Jeremy!! Love the Ghosting in of the skullz man!! :noteworthy I am not usually a big "flames" kinda guy but your canopy rocks dude, I like it!

Since I am not a painter nor will I ever say I am I have a couple getting done by Joe at Canopy FX, doubt I will have them anytime soon but season is almost toast here as it is steady below zero most days now. I did learn today that the stock aluminum boom on the 6003D shrinks "alot" from room temp to below 32, from steel tight to belt cog slappin' LOL.

Make sure to get that canopy on your bird and outside and get us some more pics with it on the beast!!!!! :smokin:

Nice canopy!

I'm going to have to do something along the lines of tubing on mine, as it came pre-torn on one side, and after a little use, now has three tears on one side, and one on the other. In flight, it now looks lop-sided due to the flexing the tears induced.

Quick tidbit on re enforcement for the plastic canopies*** Goto your local hardware store and buy some of the re enforced tape that has kevlar or threads in it. They use it for jiprocking and mudding walls etc, it is a super sticky strong tape that you can line on the inside of the problematic areas preventing any tears or further tears.

Here are my final build pics.... Now just got to tweak out a few bugs then it will be ready for the maiden flight! :happyd

Final thoughts. EASY to build. Very high quality with only a few minor kinks.

My canopy is starting to rip apart along the back lower edge where it wraps around the rear. Going to buy that tape stuff Shawn was talking about in the previous post. After spending money on a sick paint job the canopy starts to crack and tear and it hasn't even flown. That's probably my biggest gripe. A few short bolts. That's about it as for the negatives.

The build was the most enjoyable and easy I've ever done of this size bird. Can't wait to build a 5003D. Mikado really has put a lot of thought into this heli and did a great job sending me a quality kit.:noteworthy

What's that ugly-looking thing sticking out perpendicular to the rotors on the main shaft?

Seriously, though, that's one fine looking bird. I hope to come up to the 600 next, if the T-Rex 500 doesn't take my money away first!

Your pics also show one thing I've been curious about on my bird. Does anyone have any idea why the main shaft is canted forward when it's sitting on its skids? It's not a big deal, but it catches the eye having it out of vertical.

A lot of people think the shaft is tilted forward in the frame but it's only the angle of the skids that give it that look. I have no idea why it's that way other that stance .

Wow, that looks nice! What, no green K&B stiffies to go on that bird? They should give you a pair for free.:YeaBaby:

The forward lean of the main shaft might be designed to give the helicopter natural forward direction on takeoff to get the tail off the ground sooner.

Can't wait to hear about the first flight. Maybe you should take that canopy off on first hover.

Great job Jeremy! My Logo5003D will be here soon.

Your right! I do need to get some green K&B Stiffies for this bird. :rolling

When Mikado starts selling thicker canopies I'm going to buy one and have it custom painted. Already have an idea on paint another cool job.

Will not happen Jeremy, they like to keep em real light, This one is thin, but still good imho.

The majority of people I've spoken to want a thicker canopy and if Mikado is smart they will provide it. It's possible they won't but for marketing sake they should.

An extra 40 to 60 grams is worth the extra quality. I understand about keeping it light.... but not in this area. If you want a nice looking paint job that lasts they will have to beaf it up a little, otherwise don't break the bank on an exspensive paint job (an old friend did mine cheap). It's to flexable and simply isn't going to last. Come on mine is starting tear apart and it hasn't even flown!!! I'm going to buy that thread tape from Lowes but still.

You know I respect you Shawn, but we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Is this the same one that comes in the box for the 6003D?

MIK4130 - Canopy Logo 600 3D Fiberglasshttp://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6502

I also noticed that Espritmodel has two different kinds for the Logo500 3D

FG model (MIK4109)
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6474

and standard (MIK4111)
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6500

They show these as not in stock but I assume they are coming.

My 600 has the FG canopy and the 500 the plastic. I too am concerned at how light they are. I am sure once i start using them they will split BUT due to the wrap around shape of them i cannot see how they can make them any stronger/thicker and still allow for fit. The only option would be to use the milk bottle stuff which would add plenty of weight and not be a clever move.

 We don't want that. I really think they can do some R&D on the glass one and get it to work fine. It wouldn't take much to be stronger and still allow flexability.
